        • A great place to explore with friends or family. The architecture and craftsmanship of the palace and woodwork is truly exceptional. The quality and detail of the paintings that adorn the walls of the gallery will be of great interest to art enthusiasts and common people alike. There are also historic weapons on display. The calm, scenic atmosphere and friendly attitude of the staff makes it a must go to place if you happen to be in the area. Note: Be ready to spend about 3 hours if you plan on seeing everything. Footwear is not permitted inside and the place will likely take a toll on your feet and energy. Be vigilant if you bring small children along, it is easy to get lost in the huge compound.
        • Awesome place. I have travelled quite a bit but so far never seen something alike. Very different architecture and planning! Wonderful history. Well maintained while preserving the history. One word of caution - not for people with knee issues or very frail health. Once you are in - you have to complete the entire tour which may be exhausting.
        • This palace is definitely worth visiting. Its a magnificent wooden palace of the 16th century with lot of history, minimum time needed to run through the entire palace is 2.5 hours. Its a architecture marvel with good building concepts, you will be really amazed to see such intricate wooden designs. Its better to visit this place early in the morning, since sometimes in the afternoon and evenings there is a huge queue for tickets. There is no Audio Guide available.
        • One of the most beautiful palaces I have ever visited.. The palace is spread over 6.5 acres and one definitely amazed with the construction of this big palace..
        • History Revisited. Amazing Experience. Hats off to the makers of this wonderful wooden magic.
        • People managing here never understand the difficulties faced by visitors. Be it Indians or foreigners. Hot sand, hot stones to walk. Children old people tortured in walking in hot surface. Only making money is the policy of these palace people. No water facility. Ladies stand in queues to attend nature calls. Which include Indians and foreigners. There is nothing great to see inside. Rs 35.00 ticket for Indians and 300.00for foreigners. Unfortunate foreigners feel cheated for the treatment in and out. Very poor way of tour arrangements. Some students appear as volunteers who it appears know no English. Foreigners who pay 300.00 are crazily looking at all these and scolding India. No water, no fans, no proper toilets. Cheap fellows. Long queue for ticket at ticket counter. One old man hesitantly issues tickets. Lot of children in hundreds are coming and don't understand all these and struggle in hot sun, surface, steep steps which are taller than them... Climbing telling iyappa.. getting afraid of their teachers. Pathetic sight. Never visit this place thinking as something very great.
        • You will be amazed after seeing the simple but majestic architecture designs.. hanging horseman lamp... Ayurvedic bed.. war equipments....etc...etc
        • There is beautiful natural view. There is nothing great to see inside. No drinking water facility.
        • Padmanabhapuram palace is built in wood, this palace is a master piece in wood. The wooden floor, wooden ceilings, wooden pillars all were majestic. This palace is famous for its unique design. The palace is located nearby Tuckaly, Tamil Nadu. It is a good palace for history lovers.
        • "Don't judge a book by its cover" Exactly, don't judge this place by it's exterior design. It's a place with Awesome Engineering and Architecture. I don't want to describe more about this place. I would say go and visit this place. Normally Photography is not allowed inside the place.
        • Well maintained palace, staff everywhere to explain the details, very helpful staffs.. Road leads to the palace need to be improved, roads are very narrow and not even enough for single way traffic.. Looks like state govt not interested to help people who visit the palace since it is not under the state govt.
        • Its a nice place to learn about thiruvathamkoor Royal Family...but nothing to see in inside not much furniture in this palace. And also too much darkness in this palace the authority's not provide any lights...I think kayamkulam palace is better than this. palace
        • The place is historic, I guess that's the only pro to it. The place lacks maintenance, the guides inside the palace speak monotonously and do not care about the visitors. Speaking about the staff, the palace staff are great at ripping off visitors, charging more from foreigners or north-indians. It needs improvement at so many levels.
        • This is one of the still maintained palaces in india to highlight its tradition. Still active and visited by many people daily. [Monday Holiday]
        • Superb place to visit. Good place for weekend trips with family or friends. Its a well maintained old palace of travancore king and is still under the government of kerala. Guides are there to explain about each and every constructions and arts.
        • Excellent place. Everything is explained by guides in each part of the palace. The road to the palace is poorly maintained. Most of the times, two way traffic is not possible without one vehicle going off the road.
        • super palace...were we will go were we will come out only confusion. watch the sealing of the palace it has been carved with different design. outside it filled with sand so nice. on the entrance you can find the deepam. Ravivarma painting can bee seen here. place inside is cool.
        • A historic palace, renowned as Asia's largest wooden palace. The tour is very well organized with guides placed at every important place. They provide precise information of that area. BTW guide is not charged, only a nominal entry fee is taken for the palace. As you proceed through the palace you will notice the architecture evolve as newer and newer buildings were added to the palace. Its a good outlook of that era. You also have a Meusem with household artifacts, statutes, weapons and armoury among other things at display in here.
        • A good place to visit, just consider that you need to climb steep stairs couple of times. So it's a bit challenging for elderly people. A small market outside and it gets closed for lunch as well so time your visit accordingly.
        • Its a historical place were everything is well arranged and neat. You will be definitely get amazed with the works our ancestors did on wood and on floor. It was a very hot day and we felt the difference soon on stepping onto the palace floor. The room temperature was very low compared to that of outside. Guides are available at every corner and they will explain you the details and speciality of that section in any language you are familiar with. Dont miss those explanation, its worth spending time.
        • Amazing historical palace Well maintained as it is 300 years old palace opened to public 100 percentage. No hidden areas. Excellent guides to explain the history in details (Guides are government staffs)
        • Archaic monument.....throw lights to the ancient architecture...life of elite rulers ....it will be a best experience for those who are interested in history. Calm and quiet surrounding itself arose a great atmosphere. Neatly preserved carvings and sculptures and museum.
        • researchers and history enthusiast..and every common man..who is interested in history should visit the place.before entering it is requested to purchase small booklet from the counter around 100k about the palace to deeply understand what we are going to see.. because the service of the guides out their not much cooperative..they just doing their daily work...
        • Wonderful place...but looking few steps entry , I'm wondering about narrow steps...i did not believe is this King palace? But dining hall very big 2000 people can eat at a time. Old Indian Toilet is very nice construction. Big Jars for pickle and food plus. Weapons are wonderful... Pictures remember our old nation. Very good atmosphere. Very Good maintanence. Good interpretation arrangements. God bless that tourism administration.
        • It's a must visit palace especially those who love historic place..just go through the below points which will be helpful.those who want peaceful environment please avoid to visit during weekends and festival seasons. Entry fee is comparatively high for foreigners..foot wears are not allowed inside palace (cloakroom is available)..try to avoid food from nearby place (my experience)..for those who are aged and physically challenged just keep in mind that it won't be easy as their is some steep stair and some distance to walk inside..
        • Open till 4:30. It was a weekend place for the royals. Sadly couldn't see as time was limited. But worth watching this place full of beautifully carved wood and the feel of the royalties watching over you after 400 yrs. Historical place. The king would feed 2000 guests daily and had huge set up for everything. After kanyakumari this is a must visit.
        • It's a must visit place and it will be treat especially those who love historic place.. Please go through below to avoid unnecessary surprise during your visit. please avoid to visit during weekends and festival seasons if you need calm and silence. Monday will be holiday. You can see olden weapon, buildings, wooden architecture and more.
        • Wonderful Experience of olden days calm and peacefulness you can find in the palace. In olden days the dining hall was very huge to serve food to the place people. Architecture was good.
        • Marvelous wooden architecture.well defined path way. Inside the palace at each point Government appointed guides explain the significance. Guides are very cooperative. Pls don't go during 12:30pm to 2pm it ll b closed.
        • Very good old palace. One of the best example of our architecture skills. Though its quite smaller in size you can feel how the palace is been used in their times. It could have been maintain well. And there are many narrators to explain about each room, but they don't have more info with them to explain..
        • I highly recommend this place for students, adults and tourists. The breathtaking architectural fineness is pure poetry. Take care of your head as most of the entrances to the rooms are very short. You don't want a swelling head to spoil the fun. Don't you?
        • A historical tourist attraction, different from the majority of the palaces we visit world over, in the sense that the the palace is prominently built by rose and teak wood centuries ago, still standing. Though the time has hit the palace, as it shows in many ways, the recent cyclone has damaged it further. The conventional royal part and the western style built layout are unique among many other features of the palace. The royal section has small rooms, narrow passages and staircases, minimum natural light and air ducts/windows, low ceilings..... makes one think that was it really a royal palace. A unique heritage possession needs more attention by the authorities to preserve and maintain this palace. It has an entry fee and remain closed on Mondays as weekly off. The surrounding dense construction has diminished/faded the royalty touch/ exterior grace of the palace!
        • The palace is well maintained it consists of more than 65 rooms in which each and every room has different architect. This palace remains very calm. The king Cot is made up of medicinal property tree. The royal chairs has Chinese carvings and the ceilings is full of Rosewood and teak wood. Palace has two divisions 1.mantrasala Kings council chambers 2.queen mother's palace. Timings- 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM Find this post useful, please like this Post.
        • Its most visit place. Awesome place......also has a museums on the palace ground... Wonderful experience of olden days calm and peacefulness you can find in the palace. Good wooden works heritage site ...take time to visit.. It consists of more then 65 rooms in which each and every room has different architecture work. Well maintained palace of king Padmanaba....
        • A must visit place. One of the oldest palaces in India. Most of the place is neatly maintained. The lighting within the palace is dull. Guides inside the palace brief the history for tourists. The palace is looked after by the Govt of Kerala.
        • Marvelous 16th century wooden palace . The hosts welcome us warmly and lead us into the palace giving a brief description about the palace and the kings. Once inside the palace, there are hosts in each room to explain about the room and the furniture in there. The palace itself is extraordinarily built almost entirely with wood. The carving on the wood is simply astonishing! It would cost millions or probably billions to get such work done today! Almost every inch of wood is carved into flowers or other decorative shapes. Must visit and one-of-a-kind palace in India.
        • A must visit for those who love to be at historical places. Great architecture and well maintained. Easily reachable from Thuckalay. (State transport buses are also available). Guides inside the palace will explain with significant details about whats around you. No restriction for mobile cameras.
        • It is very good place to visit. The Palace is made of wood. wood carving is ultimate. You may think that the palace is small but when you enter and you will found so many palaces are connected each other.
        • The palace exhibits the architectural marvel of the ancient days. The artworks are really great and one can wonder about it as they have many different designs and are carved on teak wood. Even the rooftops and the sidewalls are having well-crafted artworks. The negative side of it is that the maintenance is poor especially the floors and there is no light fixed, so rooms are dark at some places
        • The palace was really good.. 5 stars for it. But, the staffs in there were not very friendly and i was able to get a minimum description about the palace from them. A must watch destination. Need atleast 1 full hour to visit the palace.
        • Awesome place. Maintained properly. Go without slippers or shoe. They charge for that. People love antique stuff and architecture will love this place
        • One of the best maintained palaces I have seen. The museum could use a little help in displaying the historical artifacts, but nonetheless, it still stands high on glory. Plus you actually have guides stationed in important rooms, so one does not need to pay extra for a tour guide. Pointers: If you want to take pictures inside the palace, you need to pay for using camera at the ticket counter.
        • Amazing property but entry fee is a bit too much especially since they charge for photography. Well maintained. Staff is also super active.
        • Excellent place to see. Big palace. People are there every where to explain, say about the rooms Raja lived. Maintained very neat. But have to walk a lot. Not suitable for elderly and sick. Snacks and food available out side. Shopping available. Camera and phone charged extra.
        • Historical place. Must see if u love old palaces and history. Managed by Kerala Government, But it's located in Tamil Nadu. It takes nearly one to two hours to view the entire palace. Must visit place if u pass through this area. The place itself is located nearby a hill which makes the view more appealing.
        • Nice and traditional place to visit. Can learn and wonder more about the culture and traditional architecture and desihn. Visit on a sunny day as artificial lighting is not there inside palace and so to get a better view need sun light. Can finish the tour of palace in 1 hour.
        • One of the best wooden palaces in the world because of its architectural beauty and vastness. A beautiful example for Kerala's traditional wooden architecture. During a visit here one could enjoy the craftsmanship of some dedicated minds !
