  Coming to Crete means experiencing a heady blend of modern Greek culture mixed in with a deep appreciation for the historical and cultural past, even if much of it is mythological in nature. The island is literally packed with archeological wonders, from temples to caves to mountains and more, so beyond the beaches and the cities themselves it’s very easy to lose an entire month or even several month’s worth of time to Crete.

• Heraklion

  Iraklion is the biggest city in Crete (and fifth in Greece. History is very much alive in Iraklion just like in most Greek cities. The central square while surrounded by cafes, stores and restaurants, is dominated by the fountain of the Lions, built by Morozini(the venetian governor in 1628). At the end of the central market is a coffee house, housed at the "Koubes", a fountain built by the Turks when they converted the nearby church of the Saviour to the Valide mosque. All around the old part of the city ,a visitor can walk following the old Venetian walls that meet at a bastion, called "Koules", that dominates the old harbour of the city.
  
  The visitor to Iraklion should definitely visit the archaeological site at Knossos and the Archaeological Museum of Iraklion that houses most of the Minoan findings in Crete. Special attention should also be paid to the Historical museum of Iraklion that houses findings from the early Christian era to today and the Museum of Natural History.

  We were in the old part of Golden Bay Apartments. App # 206 .It looked dated, the bed was excellent, the room rather small and the shower and toilet was minimal. In the shower you could not turn your ass, with a curtain. Curtain you could leave more open, you had a little more space. The breakfast was fine, plenty of choice! Staff nice and helpful. Pool is cleaned every morning. During breakfast lots of cats around your table, run occasionally on the table? Little affected by traffic (in October). Beach about 15 min walk. We give 3 stars (good). Wij zaten in het oude gedeelte van Golden Bay appartementen . App nr 206 .Het zag er gedateerd uit , het bed was uitstekend , de kamer vrij klein en de douche en wc is minimaal . In de douche kon je je kont niet keren , met een gordijn. Gordijn kon je beter open laten , had je iets meer ruimte . Het ontbijt was prima , keuze genoeg ! Personeel aardig en behulpzaam. Zwembad wordt elke ochtend schoon gemaakt . Tijdens ontbijt veel katten in de buurt van je tafel , lopen af en toe ook op de tafel ? Weinig last van verkeer ( in oktober ). Strand ongeveer 15 min lopen. Wij geven 3 sterren ( goed ).

At night, very loud and annoying noise from the nearby disco. That's the only reason I would not return there. Otherwise cool. V roce 2011 jsme tu byli s rodinou. Pekne ubytovani. Nedostatecna kapacita restaurace. Jidlo velmi dobre. Personal vystresovany ale slusny. V noci velice hlasity a neprijemny hluk z blizkych diskotek. To je jediny duvod proc bych se tam nevracel. Jinak v pohode.

  Rested his family (2 + 2) in May 2013. Comfortable hotel. We lived in a three-storey housing. Good spacious rooms. If you ask for a room overlooking the swimming pool you will have free wi-fi. With good views of each floor of all 4 numbers. Others look to the neighboring hotel, 4 meters. From the staff speaks Russian, only one woman, Georgian. The hosts are very friendly. The hotel is owned by the family. Breakfast as everywhere else, a modest, but no complaints. The rooms have everything to prepare himself, except a microwave. The hotel area is well appointed. Close to the beach there are two (15 and 30 minutes on foot). Meals are also no problem, next to several restaurants. Hotel stays happy. Отдыхали семьей (2+2) в мае 2013 года. Уютный отель. Жили в трехэтажном корпусе. Хорошие просторные номера. Если попросить номер выходящий к бассейну то у вас будет бесплатный wi-fi. С хорошими видами на каждом этаже всего по 4 номера. Остальные смотрят на соседний отель в 4 метрах. Из персонала говорит по русски только одна женщина, грузинка. Хозяева очень доброжелательные. Отель принадлежит семье. Завтрак как везде, скромный, но претензий нет. В номерах есть все чтобы приготовить себе самому, кроме микроволновки. Территория отеля ухоженная. Близко расположены два пляжа (15 и 30 минут пешком). Пообедать тоже проблем нет, рядом несколько ресторанов. Отелем остались довольны.
