Users Assigned: KazmiNormally referred to as simply Micronesia, the Federated States of Micronesia is a country in the northwestern Pacific Ocean made up of a series of four major island groups with over 600 islands to its claim. It lies just north of the equator, roughly three-quarters of the way from Hawaii to Indonesia, and is just north of Papua New Guinea. A tropical setting, the typhoon season from June to December can wreak havoc on the coastlines, and wary travelers should visit outside of the bad weather season.
The Federated States of Micronesia is broken up into four states: Kosrae, Pohnpei, Chuuk, and Yap. Each state has a distinctly different culture, which leads to a wide variety of traditions and identities that are completely separate from one another, despite sharing a common ruling body. This is a tropical paradise for any traveler, especially for those who enjoy diving or exploring tropical forests. The area is known for being relatively crime-free, and one of the safest places for travelers to explore. Even so, it's always good to travel with at least one other person if it's your first time in a country, just to be on the safe side, and to have someone to share the adventure with.
The coral reefs and crystal waters off the coast of Chuuk is also host to an entire fleet of sunken ships often referred to as an underwater World War II Museum, while Kosrae is considered the Pacific version of absolute paradise, with lush forests and volcanic peaks wreathed in cloud and greenery at the same time. The state of Yap is a cultural paradise, providing the visitor with the penultimate island experience and a trip back in time to a place where the caste system is still in effect, while Pohnpei hosts the ruins of the ancient stone city of Nan Madol. The Federated States of Micronesia are absolutely a place worth visiting more than once, if only to indulge yourself in pure island living.
