Users Assigned: KazmiThere seems to be universal recognition that the Colca Canyon, in Peru is the world's deepest canyon. It is certainly much deeper than the better known Grand Canyon, in the United States. The canyon is also far narrower. Comparisons aside, it is quite magnificent with tiny villages only reachable by canoe; beautifully terraced farmland and of course the flights of the magnificent condors.
The condors are a major feature of the Colca Canyon. They soar while they wait for the right thermals to take them up higher.
The area is inhabited by the Collagua and Cabana peoples, who still wear and work in traditional dress.
There are numerous day trips from Arequipa, Peru's second largest city, but it is well worth staying, at the nearest village reachable by normal transport, Chivay, where there are superb hot springs, and great accommodations.
The local villages are very picturesque and have cacti growing wildly from tumbledown buildings. It is also possible to see the glacier which is the the source of the Amazon River from the Colca Canyon.

Went for the day tour here opposed to any of the multi-day hikes. You have to leave Arequipa early (2am) in order to get here for 8am which is apparently the best time to see the Condors flying over head... They are Gigantic! The views of the canyon are fantastic, a really spectacular place.

This location is well worth the struggle. Once here all your needs are taken care of. The sheer energy of the river runs through you, cleansing and relieving you of all stress. The thermal baths, on site, give you complete release of all earthly stress. The staff is top shelf. I strongly recommend this place for anyone looking for the complete Andean hospitality experience.

2 days tour with Peru Andes made this trip a fantastic experience full of great moments and stunning views every single time we stopped to take a picture! Also, we had a chance to learn more about local culture with our great guide Fernando. Absolutely recommended if you love hiking! Thank you! George and Veronika/CZ+SK

Gorgeous canyon that is worth taking a few days to hike through. There are generous accommodations and the views are amazing. You change elevation multiple times to see different parts of the canyon and the life it can support, as well as getting a multitude of views throughout the canyon.

This amazing trek took several days. Amazing views, fantastic hostel with pool to end the first day. Thank god for the donkeys to take us up the hill the second day! You have to be quite fit! 😂 I loved ever moment and it is more than worth the early morning start to get there. Its super hot so you want to avoid walking during the midday sun as much as possible!
