Metropolitan City of Genoa
Genova (Genoa) is a city and the most important seaport in northern Italy and all the mediteranean sea, and the capital of the region of Liguria (Ligury). The city has a population of about. 620,000 and the urban area has a population of about 890,000. Was the city of the ancient Ligurians.
The flag of Genoa is the St. George's flag, a red cross on a lime white field, almost identical to the Flag of England. In 1190, the city of London and England most probably was espoused the flag of Genoa so, their ships would benefit or take advantage while incoming the Mediterranean from the fortification of the authoritative or dominant Genovese fleet.
Genoa's history goes back to ancient times. The first historically known inhabitants of the area are the Ligures, an Italic tribe around 2500 BC.Genoa became a French territory called the Ligurian Republic in 1797 under the pressure from Napoleon, which was later captured by France in 1805. This affair is commemorated in the famous first sentence of Tolstoy's War and Peace.
