      • Granada
Sat in the shadow of the Sierra Nevada, and host to a plethora of North-African influences, charming tourist sites and winding, old school backstreets, Granada is a city that just has to be seen. Explore the towering fortress, drift out of town and in amongst the olive groves, or bed down in a cubbyhole bar and enjoy the free tapas that comes with your mojitos in this fashionable, downsized take on nightlife. For Andalucía, you see, Granada is strikingly and alluringly atypical.

The yellow-stone walls and elaborate carvings of Al Hambra are the most prominent Muslim relic, and – once you’ve fought through the limited access system (arrive early) - contain some of the most beautiful carvings and tranquil pools you’re ever likely to come across. You can stare out over the entire city from the walkways, while the impressive gardens stretch for miles and invite you to indulge in the tropical wildlife.

If you’d like your own, personal taste of Granada’s history, plenty of the city’s hotels are affordable Muslim houses, with simple fountains in the center of their courtyards and unfussy yet strikingly picturesque rooms, with restaurants in the arched, almost crumbling basements. You’ll find them tucked away in the back streets of districts like Albayzin, which are invariably ornate, with fountains, streams, and roads so small it’s a wonder the locals can squeeze their cars down them (best not to try yourself, unless you’re prepared to cause a jam and get lost in the one way system).

Away from the mosque, teashops and carpet salesmen, though, there’s plenty here that’s uniquely Spanish, too, like the flamenco clubs that never seem to close (the locals are painfully good), the gothic cathedral, and some of the best tapas restaurants in the whole of Spain.

Unlike vast swathes of the rest of provincial Spain, rock up In Granada and you won’t feel like you’ve been there before. With tourist sites that rival the capitals of plenty of countries, a unique ethos derived from an ancient cultural mix, and more fun to be had than you’re ever likely to get round to, it’s a Spanish gem.

      • Nerja
Nerja is on the seashore 50 kilometers from Málaga on the N340 coastal highway.

Known for the spectacular Balcón de Europa, the "Balcony of Europe", a magnificent promenade along the edge of a towering cliff, once the site of the great Moorish castle, with sweeping panoramic views of the Mediterranean and the small coves and beaches below.

The most spectacular attraction is undoubtedly its fascinating caves, located just three kilometers from the center of town in Maro. They include archaeological treasures such as paintings over 20,000 years old and other pre-historic remains. One of the enormous natural caverns has been transformed into a concert hall, where many performances are staged during the summer and it's home for the world's widest column.

Nerja is a pretty resort, which hasn't been over-developed, although this can mean finding accommodation isn't always easy. There are a number of narrow, winding streets with roadside vendors selling fruit and vegetables directly from their front door.

There are plenty of restaurants and bars providing ample choice for a variety of tastes. It is well located for visiting the remainder of Andalucia, Granada and the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

        • Great ski and snowboarding resort. Not the prettiest town area but lovely selection of hotels, food and drink, and also some good shops. Amazing mountain views. Not so great for non ski activities though, room for improvement for those who don't want to ski or snowboard.
        • Amazing for 2-4 day trips! Can get crowded but if you plan ahead you should be fine. Also bring snow gear and warm clothes. If you don’t you might have to end up spending loads of money to buy snow gear.
        • We hadn't skied for 25 years, but we had a perfect day. We parked underneath the ski-village, bought our ski-passes and went to one of the many shops to rent all the stuff we needed. Didn't cost too much. My brother lost his ski-pass within an hour. The office gave him a new one based on the receipt he got earlier. Cost him only 10 euro. My friend lost his parking ticket. Didn't cost him anything. We just had to give our plate number and they charged us for half a day only 12 Euro. Ski pistes were great with spectacular views.
        • Love this place but it needs to find investors who buy most of the hotels there ...
        • Easy going and easily accessible ski station. Not a lot of blacks, so good for beginners and intermediate, but some reds are more black. Just enough apres-ski.
        • Great sky station. In the summer you can do lots of activities.
        • Very quiet, obviously we were there out of season, but would imagine the place to be really good in season. Tried a couple of bars, went up the Gondola and had a great view. Pack a jumper if your going in the summer and up the chair lift, I have a photo of my daughter standing in snow in mid-August
        • Amazing! I always have so much fun here and it's perfect to come with friends or family. I can't wait to come back again❤️😍
