      • Reykjavík
Iceland’s tiny capital has an almost inconceivable quantity of character. Home of spurting geysers, mammoth hot spring baths where you can lounge amongst fresh snow fall and a music scene the envy of cities several times its size (think Bjork, Sigur Ros and a White Stripes, ‘fans only’ gig that has since become the stuff of legends). Reykjavik lies high on many a savvy travler’s must-see list.

Unsurprisingly, given its reputation, Reykjavik is difficult to match in terms of natural allures and incredible sights. Grabbing a bike and heading out into the surrounding wilderness – wrapped up in a suitably large number of layers, obviously – reveals perfect grassy meadows and pools shooting water high into the air, as well as idealistic spots for angling, hiking, climbing and pretty much any other kind of outdoor adventure you care to think up. If you’re here for the thermal pools, you could happily hop between them for the entire duration of even a lengthy trip, not forgetting to stop off at the bizarre geothermal beach (where hot water influx allows summer vibes amongst the frigid waters) and the infamous blue lagoon, where the rustic waters have been turned into a phenomenal and pricey health spa, and can also be explored more naturally on foot.

Icelander’s are culturally laid back - no doubt a great plus given their recent brush with bankruptcy – and seem to have a community outlook when it comes to cultural development, with plenty of their impressive art and sculpture mounted against the backdrop of striking sunsets or incorporated into the modern city. You can explore the Viking times thoroughly, including glancing at a reconstructed longhouse and delving into the archives of the national museum, while the more modern end of the spectrum is fulfilled with stunning contemporary art galleries and countless smaller artistic entities popping up amongst the more standard shopping streets.

In a way, Iceland is like a frozen utopia, where nature is somehow more beautiful than you could ever imagine, and the streets have a strength of artistic and attractive sentiment yet the people remain unpretentious. Count on spending a small fortune, but visitors invariably believe it’s worth it. If you dig deep enough you might encounter a truly unforgettable and up close experience with a true native.

        • Loved it! Arrived here after an early morning flight and it was just what we needed to relax and reenergize. We booked in advance which made check-in faster and got the premium package with robes, towels, flip-flops and one free drink. We had a nice glass of bubbly right there in the lagoon! Everyone is given a specific coloured bracelet which indicates the type of package purchased and whether you can order alcohol (3 drink limit for safety reasons and no alcohol under 20 years of age). The bracelet also locks your locker and is used to scan and pay for food. You do have to shower naked before going into the lagoon but each shower has its own frosted stall and so it's no big deal. The water pressure is amazing and do use the conditioner before and after the lagoon. This was a glorious experience and we would do it again. It was heaven!
        • Possibly the main reason people go to Iceland and with good reason. The ticket is valid for the day so you can stay for as king as you like. You get given a wristband so can pay for drinks at the swim up bar so you don’t need cash. The staff are friendly and helpful and speak perfect English. The car park is very big so driving there is no problem. When I went the roads were very quiet too. All in all it was a brilliant experience there.
        • Beautiful place and an amazing experience. The only reason I won't give it 5 stars is because when I went they only had one private changing room which meant i had to wait ages to get change. Obviously if you don't mind changing in front of others this wouldn't be a problem as you can change straight away. The entrance to the pool is right at the exit of the changing rooms which is ideal. The water was beautiful and warm and the atmosphere is so relaxing. Loved the bar that's in the pool, such a great idea and because you have a band purchasing drinks is so simple and easy. The face mask area was awesome and I would love to have bought some of the face mask to take home but it is really pricey. They also have hair dryers, shampoo, body wash and conditioner which is brilliant. It's true what they say though that if you put your hair in the water it gets really dry so do put lots of conditioner in before you go in the water! Such an amazing experience and must do for when you visit Iceland. Oh and also there is no time limit for staying in the pool so you aren't rushed or clocking watching.
        • Very nice water, warm and blue. Free face masks, depending on the package you purchase. Purchasing food and drinks using you bracelet if very straightforward. You might want to go early in the day to beat the crowds or little later to have a less crowded pool for yourself. Overall very relaxing experience after a long trip to Iceland.
        • Be careful of hot spots! The water does get SUPER hot in places. It's one of those places that you kind of have to visit if you're in Iceland. Very picturesque with the blue water surrounded by lava flows. I don't know about the supposed medicinal properties and all that, but it's a fun natural hot tub.
        • Absolutely phenomenal experience here. Second time coming here and second time being throughly impressed. The ambiance is amazing and the spa is clean. Service is good and is absolutely worth the price. I suggest eating at the attached Lava restaurant as the tasting menu is delicious! Would definitely keep coming here again and again!
        • Believe the hype! Worth every cent, great upscale feel with the best experience. Drink, mask and towel included. Should have upgraded to the robe and slipper package and planned a longer stay. I've read reviews complaining about crowds, the only place I saw this to be a major problem was in the bathroom/showers. Otherwise it ran perfectly smoothly. Needs to add swim suit spinners instead of giving out plastic bags. 30 seconds and you have a barely damp suit.

We went with our 12 and 9 year olds. They loved it. It is pretty special, and probably good enough reason to come to Iceland despite having to pay through the nose for everything. Many reviews attest to this it needs to be on your bucket list. It was raining and when you put your ears underwater, as the droplets hit the surface you get this exquisite tinkle sound. The only downside is you do feel like your following the herd a bit. Do it anyway.
