Overview You can't Edit
Users Assigned: KazmiBlejsko Jezero (Lake Bled) is located in northwestern Slovenia, in the middle of the Julian Alps and surrounded by picturesque mountains and forests. Bled Castle, a Medieval structure, reputed to be the oldest castle in Slovenia, overlooks the lake itself and the town of Bled. Horse-drawn carriages clip-clop along the promenade while swans glide on the water. On a minuscule island in the middle of the lake the lovely Cerkov svetega Martina (St. Martin's Pilgrimage Church) stands within a circle of trees. Take a ride over to the island on a pletna, an old-fashioned canopied wooden boat similar to a Venetian gondola. Bled is small enough to cover on foot; a walk around the lake won't take much longer than an hour or two.
Walking and coaching trails around the lake, traditional boats, ringing the island’s wishing bell, the castle treasures, the nearby ski pistes, mountain trails, golf courses, hunting, fishing, the casino, congress facilities – all these are but fragments of Bled’s attraction, which is truly worth experiencing.And don't forget to try local sweet called Kremsnita, the best you can get at Šmon's.

LjubljanaThe heart of scenic Slovenia, Ljubljana is a historic city dating back to the days when founder Jason is said to have fought and killed the resident dragon, now a symbol of the fantastically ornate city. Old Ljubljana in particular is something special, having somehow brushed aside Soviet influences and retained the fairytale monuments, bridges, fountains and old-world houses that dominated the city many years ago.
Aside from the dragon iconography, the ‘Three Bridges’ are the stand out attraction of Ljubljana, oddly built right next to each other downtown, and home to lavish statues of local poets. Just down the road is the inevitable dragon bridge (guarded by four large statues) and you’ll find the castle at the top of an extremely steep road nearby, too. Ljubljana Castle sits at the peak of a wooded hillside in the heart of the city, and inside you’ll find whitewashed buildings surrounding a sizeable courtyard and epic views of the city from the height of the tower.
The Square of the Republic is a spot close to the heart of Slovenes, as the corner of the capital where the country declared its independence from Yugoslavia back in the early 90s, and since then the parliament building and nude statues that surround the square have seen almost exclusively good: Slovenia’s economic development has been substantial, the EU have bought political stability and the tiny nation is quickly establishing itself on the international tourist map. The vibe of this lively city reflects the progress.
The fiercely nationalist museums make for a great insight into the local psyche, while those who prefer a bit of a messy night out will be pleased to find that the local nightlife still feels like a celebration. Of course, the city also makes for the perfect gateway into the rest of Slovenia, with all the extensive transport links you’d expect from a capital.
It might be a relatively small capital, but Ljubljana makes up for it in pure picturesque beauty, and leaves most of the increasing array of visiting tourists raving.Ljubljana, Slovenia
