      • The log cabins called "Chalets" were lovely. Own fire place is something special even if you did have to constantly walk to the reception to ask them for more wood which they then charged you 15 Euro a refill. However, when one is charged 600 euro a night I feel it fair to expect to be fed properly. There was no menu and so two choices each night for the main course and no choices for the starter or desert. He food was low quality. It reminded me of school dinners. Simply awful. The wine was over priced and low end. The hotel was run like a holiday camp more than a hotel. No services were provided in terms of room turn down, fresh towels or bed linen. The staff were very nice and friendly and did the best they could but the whole thing was amateur. Shame.
      • The good news: Kakslauttanen can be beautiful. The bad news: It is overpriced, and their organization can be chaotic at times. TEMPERATURE: We stayed in December, where the outside temp oscillated between -16C/3F to -3C/26F. It is amazing the number of people who are not dressed appropriately. It is really not that hard folks! The dog sleds safaris will let you use their clothes but do you really want to use what the other sweaty guy was using prior to you? If you live in the US, check Under Armor products. They will be your friends in the Artic. And do your research on how to dress in theses temperatures. IGLOOS: This is hearsay, as we did not stay there. We were told that they were hot. That you don’t have much privacy as people can see your torso when you are standing up, and that there is no showers in them. You will have to go to a communal building for that. TRADITIONAL HOUSE: This is where we stayed. Although hotel brochures tell you that it is set up for 21C/70F inside, that is a lie. Temp will fluctuate depending on the outside weather. The best we saw was 18C/65F, but it got as cold as 14C/58F inside the house. No extra blankets, no extra pillows, and bed sheets are thin like in a cheap motel. Plan to sleep in your own cloth. For the price we paid, we do not think this was acceptable. Also, there are no curtains on the windows. This will be difficult if you are used to sleep in dark rooms. We had a good amount of light on our first night, which was clear with full moon. FOOD: Breakfast and dinner is included. You must reserve your dinner with a time slot of 5 or 7 or 8 in the evening. One night might be a Reindeer plate, or a chicken plate, or a beef plate, although the amount of meat can be so little, we do not know why they even bother. If you do not fancy such menu, there may be some other options, but expect to pay a hefty 20-30 Euros extra. Lunch is not included, and consists of a selection of soups with a price gouging of 20 Euros. We would have preferred not to be time pressured, and being in a “normal” restaurant with a wide selection of food. TRANSPORTATION: No issues with transport to and from the airport. Where it can start to be chaotic is for the 7 minutes ride between East village and West village. WE WAITED FOR A FULL HOUR. This place can be such a zoo; there is no effort from the resort to organize this. Drivers come and go with no understanding of who should be in the vans. Same with safaris. Twice we were left behind at the dog sleds, as we stayed with the dogs afterward. Again, no listing is kept to make sure who and how many should be in the vans. They have been doing this since 1973, so we expected better. DIFFERENCES BETWEEN EAST AND WEST VILLAGE: West village is more recent. It is also the most beautiful as this is where you find the Christmas village. As a result, it is also the most populated. East village, being older with less people, tend to be more secluded. The restaurant, much smaller tends to be cozier as well. Both side offer igloos, although I believe that the igloos attach to a cabin only exists in West village. STAFF: The staff in West village tends to be crankier, perhaps due to the crowd there. The staff in East village is nicer and we had no issues dealing with them. Most employees behind the desks are foreigners themselves in there twenties. LIGHTS: With a sunrise at noon, and a sunset at 2 in the afternoon, we only expected to have about 3 hrs of daylight including twilight. Instead, a glow of lights started at 8:30 in the morning (that's 3:30 hrs before sunrise!) and ended at 2. This is heaven for photographers with a "blue hour" extending for this long. And if the sky is clear, you will also get a orange glow which is mind boggling so much earlier than the sunrise. We had brought headlamps for this trip and ended up never using them. OVERALL: It becomes quickly obvious that the money invested in this place is for expansion, at the detriment of the chaos, which can exist for transportation or running the place with the bare minimums.
      • Lovely place to visit Lapland. Accommodation where perfect even if a little bit spartan in the bathroom but the sauna in every room was very good as the fireplace. Only food was poor but damm we are in Lapland :) Great excursion, especially the Husky one. Really loved it with my kids that loved meeting Santa.
      • Stayed 3 nights and 4 days here to see the Northern Lights. 2 nights were in the cabin and one was in the glass igloo. You only need one night in the glass igloo. It's for 2 people and it's small in space. Showers are in another building. Lots of different activities you can book with the hotel such as horse back riding, dog sledding, reindeer sledding, and more. Bring lots of warm clothing and a camera that can withstand the cold. Most electronics will stop working at low temperatures. WIFI is available in the main lounge/restaurant area.
      • Very friendly staff, excellent accomodations, I stayed in a chalet and it was perfect for two. There is a double bed with a bathroom near and a different room with a bunk bed.The second bathroom is near the kitchen area. Fireplace and rocking chair are included in the dining area. Both bathrooms are large, the one from the bedroom has a sauna. Overall very cozy and very clean.
      • The resort and igloos are super beautiful and comfortable. Food served in their restaurant is good too. But they could improve their staff service to make guests experience perfect and complete. Do not take their reindeer safari ride if you want to go Aurora Hunting. We took one and when the lights just came out, the 2 guides were chasing everyone to get back. This is a reindeer ride not aurora hunting. If you are interested in aurora hunting, go with those professional aurora hunting company.
      • The worst customer service I have ever experienced. They will rip you off for all of your money. AVOID. We checked in at 2PM and were looking to shift our activities. There was no manager present for 19 hours over the weekend to deal with changes. Terrible terrible management and organizational structure. How is there no manager for 19 hours on a weekend? Are they sleeping or on vacation? They tricked us into paying for 2 activities even though there isn't enough time and it overlaps. They tricked us saying we had time for both. Luckily we didn't have a credit card on file so we said we are not paying for the first activity.
      • We read a few bad reviews before arriving but really, why are you coming to Lapland? Tranquility and natural beauty or five star treatment? Perhaps look somewhere else if you want the five star hotel service. The food is good though there was fairly limited choice (we are, after all, in the artic!), the cabins are great and the glass igloo an experience not matched. Set your alarm every hour through the night to check the sky; cloud cover was intense every day and every night during our stay... but nature lifted her skirt for one hour at 3am on our last night. The northern lights are worth putting a bit of work in for! Unreal experience. Stay in the West Village for newer / more lively experience. Stay in the East Village for a quieter more tranquil experience.
      • you can Aurora gaze from the comfort of your own glass igloo, and stay in a traditional log cabin complete with sauna and open fire. How to get to Kakslauttanen: There are no direct flights to Ivalo (a 30 minute ride from the hotel) from the UK, but there are flights from Manchester, London and Edinburgh with stop-offs in Helsinki. Alternatively, you could fly into Helsinki, and make your own way up north.
      • There is really nowhere else in the world quite like this place. The glass igloos are so unique looking, such a different experience than you'll get anywhere else, it's truly breathtaking. There isn't a ton to do at the resort without paying a lot for excursions, so be prepared for that. There was dinner included in our stay and it was a great 3 course meal. If you're looking for an infinitely photographable vacation, this one is well recommended.
      • This place is so creepy and bizarre. It has a fabulous website and a great sign, but when we arrived there wasn't anybody there. The reception was shut and the whole place felt forgotten and abandoned. Definitely stear clear!
      • Beautiful place. Costs a lot of money, but the view from the glass igloos, the nice dinner and sauna facilities really worth the extra mile 😀
      • Kakslauttanen in Finland is known for its freezing temperatures so people prefer staying and getting indoors early, but no issues you can look at the spectacular Northern lights from the glass igloos. The experience gets really charming as you can view it from your cozy beds.
      • While not quite as glamorous as the West Village, it was still a very amazing experience. The cabins are lovely and fun. The staff are friendly and helpful.
      • While not quite as glamorous as the West Village, it was still a very amazing experience. The cabins are lovely and fun. The staff are friendly and helpful.
      • An absolutely amazing place! We didn't see the Northern Lights unfortunately, but the rest of the experience was unforgettable! Very expensive, especially if you book the husky safari, snowmobiles etc but so worth it!
      • Aaaaaaaa amazing. They have all the cool stuff to do like reindeer aurora sleigh rides and husky sleds. I have never smiled so much in all my life. One night in the igloo was awesome watching the sky and snow. Three nights in the Queens Suite was amazing. Private sauna, hottub oh and go in the hottub in subzero degrees is awesome you wont stop loving life. The food oh man stay with the prepared meals it is delicious. The breakfast is buffett style which is great to get you prepped for adventures. If you have a chance go just go, oh and snow tank is so worth it just talking to the guy will have your jaw sore from the smiles he is great. The staff made the winter wonderland more of a heaven. Simple pick your adventures they arrange it tell you a time to be there and boom go, just relax and enjoy
      • Veri veri cold need to walk a short distance b4 reach glass igloo
      • It's a short 30 mins ride from Ivalo airport. Transfer service is available and there are lots of winter activities within the resort. The famous glass igloos and kelo-igloos are really popular so do book in advance!! Service here is top class. With igloo booking, breakfast and dinner is included.
      • Go there with a positive mood maybe you will see the northern light maybe not that not depending of the hotel the glass igloo are nice with a electric bed. The dinner and breakfast are included in the price. The dinner is basic the intercontinental breakfast is nice. Don’t expect any activity included they are all extra and that Normal. They have a Art gallery for the art lover really great with only local artists really nice to see go have a drink on the the 3rd floors observatory is just amazing. We have do husky and reindeer from different place than it was recommended by friends and it was way better than the hotel. If you guys need it contact me I will be more than happy to give you this tips. Enjoy your time over there because no matter what we are pretty lucky to be available to stay in this kind of place. So enjoy your life every day! 😉✨🙏🏻✨
      • Went for the glass igloo last week. Got the super small sized igloo without shower. Igloo doesn’t have WiFi thou so you’ll need to head back to the reception for free WiFi. It takes 5 minutes walk from the reception to the igloos. Cleanliness of the igloo 7.5/10. The activities are kinda on the expensive sides. Was told snowmobile would take 2 hours but at the end we got back after 3 hours. However, the food from their restaurant are very delicious and I would rate it 9/10.
      • this place is a total scam! we were super excited to spend a night at the glorified glass igloos that sounded like a dream! but in reality you will pay 600 euros for a room that has no amenities to it! No showers, and a tiny mirror that you can barely see anything out of. and the showers that are communal and are provided to you are dirty, have zero lighting and have old hair driers that dont even turn on. to add to the insult, you are provided with couch like beds with a thin mattress topper on it, with lumpy old pillows! it is very clear that you are insignificant to the owners, and that because it is full and people keep coming they couldnt care less to upgrade the place! more over, the igloos are quite close together and people often dont turn their lights off all night ( event when they are not home) and therefore you cannot see the stars at all from your room... which at this point is the ONLY appeal! The only great experiences we had is when we left the resort where the where the interactions were more personal, we even spent an extra 250 euros on a restaurant outside the resort just to get away. also note: this resort provides a husky sledding experience, if i were you i would demand to be booked with an outside the resort company, as their huskies are kept in horrible conditions, and are looking sad and with ribs sticking out! anyone who has a dog knows what a happy dog looks like! this was a HORROR SHOW!
      • Beautiful surroundings lovely lodges non fussy and very peaceful - walking in the woods with only reindeer for company
      • The resort is designed for wealthy people. Simple as that !!! We reserved with 3 months in advance and could only find vacancy there on December 30, 2017 at the brand new KELO´s, which was spacious and confortable. The quality of the installations in the KELO is very good and it is easy to observe that a reasonable investment ($$$) has been made specially in the wood furniture. Since it is NEW, it is GOOD ! But the PRICE is way too high for what is offered !!! Chances to return there are absolutely ZERO. We missed bathroom amenities, such as shampoo, conditioner, shower caps, and even razors, which simpler hotels offer for free. The room had a shower, but could also have a bathtub (or SPA) with the price payed. Breakfast and dinner were included and were good. Lunch was available at reasonable price ($ 22 euro/person). The restaurant environment is a bit too warm, and could be cooler since everyone get´s there fully geared for low temperature. All outdoor activities are payed. We didn´t do any, because we could find cheaper options in Rovaniemi which we visited on our way back. It is unbelievable that this hotel offers very expensive activity to be done far away such as the Santa Claus visit (250 KM away in Rovaniemi) and even the Sampo icebreaker which is even further away. (Who would want to spend several hours in transit, while paying huge rate at the hotel ????) The Ice buildings (chapel and igloos) were not ready yet. The Art Gallery was closed and could not go up to the tower to see the view. The weather was cloudy and we couldn´t see any trace of the Northern Lights....(unfortunately). Conclusion: I only recommend if you really believe that a glass window view at night is the most important thing in your life, even if it is cloudy. Maybe in the summer, the view is better, but still TOO expensive to see stars....
      • Loved the resort. Excellent cabins. Everyting you need is available. Even a sauna in you cabin. Was pleasantly surprised. Restaurant served great food and friendly staff. Activities also available. Pickup from resort. If we could come back tomorrow we would.
      • I have spent the last 12 months traveling in over 13 countries, staying in countless hotels and this is by far one of the worst experiences I’ve had. For the context of the review, me and my British boyfriend spent one night in a small glass igloo which cost over €600. Upon arriving we find out that the igloos don’t even have their own shower... again, €600 a night with SHARED showers. You would presume with that price you would get a shower. I would be willing to forgive this if the showers had been conveniently located next to the igloos... but oh no, they are a 10 minute walk in pitch black, -15 degree snow and ice. For the icing on the cake, the showers are just one room, not even in their own cubical! (See photograph) So for €600 a night you have the privilege of showering naked in the company of strangers. I’ve stayed in €5 a night hostels in Cambodia with shared showers and never seen anything like it! They have always had an individual cubical. Who wants to shower in a communal shower? The first job however is getting to the igloo. You are given a torch and map when you arrive and are sent off into the pitch black night. Nobody to take you to your room. You can get someone to take you, however it will cost you €10... outrageous. This place is just one big scam to extract as much money as possible. The company/staff don’t care about your experience as they don’t rely on your return custom. They know they are going to be sold out by new people all the time. There is also no WiFi in the igloos. Just in reception. We both had SIM cards but a lot of people traveling rely on WiFi. If there is an emergency, god knows what you do as there are no phones in the igloos either. Oh and reception shuts at 11pm. You’re telling me you can’t afford to pay for someone 24/7 with dozens of igloos paying €600 a night and cabins paying even more... yeah right! You are paying 5* prices to stay in an average at best holiday camp, with no customer service at all. Our glass igloo had snow on the roof so we couldn’t even see out of the top. We asked reception 3 times to get maintenance to brush it off but they said “it was frozen on and couldn’t be taken off”. Complete lies as I scrambled around in the dark with a stick to brush it off, it was just laying on top and could easily have been done. For €600 a night I should not have to be doing this myself. As I couldn’t reach the glass on the top we had partially obscured vision for most of the night. The heat of the igloo eventually melted the snow off, but that was by about 3am. The igloos only have 2 single beds as well, not doubles... so much for a romantic night!!!!! Thank god we were only staying one night and had done stuff in a different part of Lapland as day trips here were ridiculously over priced. Apparently they don’t allow other companies to pickup from the resort as they want you to use them. We booked an airport shuttle with them... €29 each for a 30 minute journey. We presumed for this price it would be a car but oh no it was a jam packed bus and we couldn’t even sit next to each other on it. In summary it is just an overpriced tourist trap designed to milk as much money out of people as possible and if you aren’t satisfied? Who cares, there’s another full booking for the next 6 months. They don’t need you to come back. The owner should be ashamed of himself, I don’t know how he sleeps at night scamming thousands of people a year.
      • I have stayed 1 night in the glass igloo and 3 nights in the small cabin. Let me talk about the igloo first. One night, is what you need. There's nothing in it, just magic. However, magic can't last you forever. So, I would recommend only stay one night, just to try it out. Otherwise, there's basically nothing in it that is worth the penny. On the other hand, the small cabin is really quite cosy and comfortable, and it sleeps up to 4 too! There's a small kitchen for some minor cooking if needed. There's a sauna within the bathroom and we truly enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend staying in the small cabin as I did really enjoy my stay there. As for the glass igloo, it's a once in a life time thing to do just to check it off your travel bucket list. Other than that, it's quite unremarkable.
      • i stayed in the east village igloo which is nearer to the main check in lounge and with a clearer view. It belongs to the "bucket list" kind of accommodation. We were doubtful of the service standards we saw on tripadvisor but it was nothing like this in reality. The food (dinner and bf normally included) and activities (pricey) are really awesome and worth it. Of course, not every visitor get to view northern lights in the comfort of their igloo and it is largely dependable on luck. But I can assure you it will not spoil the trip even if you did not see it. So go for it.
      • We booked this stay only a few days out and whilst the booking process was difficult (they lost the booking) the stay was just amazing. We did heaps of activities all of which were first class and great value. The staff were very friendly and eager to assist. I read some of the negative reviews below and I guess if you are comparing it to a backpacking Cambodian adventure for 6 Euro a day you would say it is pricey. It’s not that type of accommodation. The included dinners were great, a great wine list, and great beer on tap. The rambling reviews from the couple below from after traveling for 12 months around the world are unfair as they have no clue as to the difference between a resort and a backpackers. We travel a lot and will be returning for sure.
      • This by far one of the most interesting hotels I have ever stayed in. I loved the service. The staff is very friendly and willing to help and advise on anything. The local restaurant makes a delicious food. The breakfast does not change from day to day but dinner does and everyday is as good as the day before. I'd recommend this place anytime.
      • The experience was amazing and the service was superb! We stayed 1 night in a glass igloo and 1 night in the wedding chamber and the difference of those rooms is like night and day. I can highly recommend the wedding chamber if you want to spend a nice evening with your loved one. They are building a new glas tower with an amazing view but it won't open before end of 2018. But when we went there a very friendly guy let us in and let us experience the view from the glass tower and it was absolutely amazing. If you want to have a good time then Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort is the place to go. I'll recommend booking the small glass igloo and ask if you can be placed in the East Village. There is less light pollution there and it's way more cozy than the west village that caters more to large groups.
      • The igloos are situated in a unique location and the possibility to admire the northern sky from the comfort of your bed is kind of priceless. However the room was not super clean, the facilities of the bedroom are quite basic and frankly outdated (90s). There were also 1 mattress and 1 portable bed on the path outside our igloo when we arrives (so random!). For the price of the night, I would expect those basic facilities to be top notch to be honest. Also, when we arrived we got to the wrong village (there are 2 villages) but we were not informed of which village our igloo was in! The setting is bucket list material but overall kinda disappointing given the price.
      • The hotel itself is nice and cozy, and the glass igloos are a very unique and incredible experience. There's not much to do, however, unless you are willing to pay a lot for other activities and it's a bummer if it's too cloudy to see the northern lights (although that is obviously not the hotel's fault). Overall, a very memorable experience!
      • It is definitely a bucket list kind of place. A unique experience with its glass igloos and their panoramic vistas. They had dog sleds, reindeer and Santa right on the door step. Need to be better co-ordinated with the check out vs dog sleds. Food was good, varied and plenty of it.
      • You will read many bad reviews but once you reach the place you shall forget everything. The cabins are comfortable and the kelo-igloo is like a dream come true. Staying in the igloo alone can be cumbersome but it is worth every penny spent. The place is in the wilderness so you must forgive them if they cant provide you with the best of the facilities but the staff make sure that the guests enjoy their stay.
      • Went there 5 years ago but totally remained as a good memory. Stayed in an igloo was a totally mind blowing experience.
