• Echternach

  Echternach is a picturesque small city on the border with Germany, dating back to 698 AD, which makes it the oldest city in Luxemburg. One interesting sight is the St. Willibrord Basilica, which is surrounded by a secondary/high school. The school used to be an abbey founded by the Irish monk St. Willibrord, who also founded the city. The small prehistoric museum is worth a visit too.
  
  There is also the famous "Sprang Prozessioun", which is a dancing procession held each Whit Sunday. It is possible that the procession might be added onto the UNESCO list as a Cultural Heritage of Mankind.
  
  Locals and visitors alike enjoy taking strolls along the Sauer river which runs through Echternach. But it could be the starting points of more serious hikes too. To "Little Switzerland" for example. There are also a number of prehistoric and Roman sights and rock formations worth looking up in the area, on both banks of the Sauer. Another day trip destination is the lake, where you can visit the remains of a Roman villa.

  The first look fits ... At first glance, very charming Château, our room beautiful and modern ... The second look? - 4 stars? - Room had on arrival max. 12 degrees, heating was made. - No luggage store - defective lamp (lampshade loose threatened constantly crashing), despite notification not be repaired on the residence - case had even be delivered to your room - not shower possible without the bathroom completely flooded - service leaves much to be desired / very upgradeable - breakfast very well arranged, hardly vegetables, even for "non-vegan" ... Fortunately we were able to the lady who was there from time to encourage them to provide some lettuce and tomato. In addition, there was no milk-alternative, not even lactose, also only sugared cereal was available ... etc.pp - Despite multiple erwähnens that we eat vegan, beforehand by email, as well as spot-and also asking for a little more choice to ensure that this did not work out. Zum Glück konnten wir die Dame, die ab und an zugegen war dazu bewegen, für etwas Salat und Tomate zu sorgen. Außerdem gab es keine Milch-Alternative, nicht einmal lactosefrei, ausserdem war nur gezuckertes Müsli verfügbar...etc.pp - Trotz mehrfachen erwähnens dass wir vegan essen, vorab per Email, als-auch vor Ort und auch der Bitte für etwas mehr Auswahl zu sorgen, hat dies nicht geklappt. Ein echtes NoGo... - wenig Platz zum verweilen, keine wirkliche Lobby - der Oberhammer kommt aber noch: Zum Geburtstag meiner Frau hatten wir im hoteleigenen Restaurant einen Tisch gebucht (meine Email Wochen im voraus mit der Bitte für etwas besonderes veganes zu sorgen, ist wohl verpufft)... An dem Abend standen wir im Eingangsbereich um platziert zu werden und wurden 15 min ignoriert (die Dame hat uns gesehen, hat aber lieber mit anderen Damen gequatscht). Für uns Grund genug um den Tisch zu stornieren und in ein anderes Lokal zu gehen. Zum Glück... - im Erdgeschoss stinkt es gewaltig nach Kloake, was durch künstliche Duftstoffe, übertrieben eingesetzt, versucht wird zu überlagern. Schade, viel Potential nicht mal ansatzweise ausgeschöpft!
