Pak Tea House: The Literal Taste of Lahore
Lahore has been the home of cultural, literary and educational activities since ages. In different periods, many prominent personalities who contributed towards these activities had started from a traditional tea house or qehwa house. Following, the history of Lahore’s literature and culture, Pak Tea House is on the top of tea houses list that added something significant. Established in 1939 during British Rule, Pak Tea House is located at bank square of Mall Road towards Neela Gumbad. While sitting there, you will feel the aroma of literature oriented people including poets, writers, journalists and scholars. Today it's not merely a tea house but central attraction for the people belongs to literature coming across the country. Before partition, it was called as India Tea House but after 1947, it transformed as the whole country and named as Pak Tea House. You will experience while watching people taking tea cups, telling fictions, criticizing novels, doing poetry, discussing current affairs, and debating at different issues. Open at 10 am and generally close at 11 pm. Pak Tea House has a very tranquil, thoughtful and relaxed ambience for its visitors to ponder and create new ideas. At present, it has become a hub of literature and learning due to its open and pleasant environment. Whole day get-togethers, tea feasts and long discussion can be seen there over time. Though juvenile years of Pak Tea House has passed but in 2012 Punjab Govt took great initiatives and renovate the tea house that insinuates a flare of happiness among literacy circle. Now, this cultural heritage resembles like a contemporary Teahouse of Europe with all its modern interiors and grabbed fame worldwide.
