Users Assigned: KazmiWinnipeg (meaning "Muddy Waters" in Cree) is the largest city and capital of Manitoba. Located at the eastern edge of the prairie region of Western Canada, Winnipeg plays a prominent role in transportation, finance, manufacturing, agriculture and education. Because all rail and highway traffic between eastern and western Canada must travel through or near the city, it is often called the "Gateway to the West." Historically, "Muddy Waters" was a trading city, and much in the city represents this. Winnipeg is an important regional center of commerce, industry, culture, finance, and government.
Winnipeg is very multicultural, and very artistic (music, visual art and street-performance). Hot spots include Osborne village (bohemian-like area with shops and cafes), the Forks market (where trade historically took place), the Legislature building, the Zoo, and many large public parks as well as a big skating rink in winter.
Day trips can include many of the bodies of water in the province. Grand Beach is a popular destination, with white sand, but murky waters. Lockport is a hotspot for fishing. Down the road from the locks, "Half-Moon" restaurant boasts killer hot dogs and ice cream.
