    • Mainz
Mainz is the regional capital of Rhineland-Pfalz right across the Rhine River from Wiesbaden in Hessen. There is a bit of rivalry between the two cities regarding which is the more beautiful city with the nicer residents. Mainz certainly gives Wiesbaden a run for its money. Though less green than its neighbor, Mainz has the iconic German facades in the center of town, breathtaking churches, and some very old sites dating back to the Roman era.

Mainz also loves to pay tribute to Gutenberg and his famous invention: the movable-type printing press. Johannes Gutenberg (1400-1468) invented book printing with removable letters. His great achievement did a good turn to Reformation in Germany when there was a need to spread Martin Luther’s translation of the Bible all over Germany and Europe.

You'll find Johannes Gutenberg monument, World Book Printing Museum, and lots of books dedicated to this important inventor over the internet.

Many outstanding landmarks are to be seen in the city: St.Martin’s Cathedral, St.John’s Church and other churches, the former royal palace, the Opera Theater.

    • Frankfurt
Frankfurt am Main, commonly known as Frankfurt, is the fifth-largest city in Germany. Situated on the Main River, Frankfurt is the financial and transportation centre of Germany and the largest financial centre in continental Europe.

Frankfurt has been Germany’s financial centre for centuries, and it is the home of a number of major banks and brokerages. The three pillars of Frankfurt’s economy are finance, transport and trade fairs. The Frankfurt Stock Exchange is by far Germany’s largest, and is one of the world’s most important.

It is also seat of the European Central Bank, the German Federal Bank, the Frankfurt Trade Fair and the earlier mentioned Frankfurt Stock Exchange. Frankfurt Airport is one of the world’s busiest international airports and Frankfurt Central Station is one of the largest terminal stations in Europe.

Frankfurt lies in the former American Occupation Zone of Germany, and it was formerly the headquarter city of the U.S. Army in Germany.

      • Okay
      • This was my favorite hotel of the 7 we stayed in during our 2 week trip to Europe. I absolutely loved the patio overlooking the Rhein and wish I could have stayed here for weeks instead of days. Definitely peaceful and relaxing. Would definietly recommend this hotel.
      • We spent two nights at Hotel Schwan last. The room was very clean, large, nice bathroom, flatscreen TV, and everything we could have wanted. The view across the river is simply stunning. It's very relaxing to sit and watch the world go by while enjoying a cold bier. Simply beautiful! Breakfast was very good. The small breads were the absolute best! Boiled eggs, the normal brotchen, meats, and cheeses were quite plentiful. And breakfast is served on the terrace overlooking the road/Rhein. How nice to start the day like that. Without a doubt, if we overnight in Hotel Schwan again there is no doubt where we'll stay.
      • Gets after restoration determines a rating from me more. Breakfast is very good. The "classic" rooms very spacious. The new Super bath amenities.

      • Hotel under renovation. Old rooms are renovated. The guesthouse is very nice and quiet, despite the direct location on an expressway. Breakfast is delicious and plentiful.
