Frankfurt am Main, commonly known as Frankfurt, is the fifth-largest city in Germany. Situated on the Main River, Frankfurt is the financial and transportation centre of Germany and the largest financial centre in continental Europe.

Frankfurt has been Germany’s financial centre for centuries, and it is the home of a number of major banks and brokerages. The three pillars of Frankfurt’s economy are finance, transport and trade fairs. The Frankfurt Stock Exchange is by far Germany’s largest, and is one of the world’s most important.

It is also seat of the European Central Bank, the German Federal Bank, the Frankfurt Trade Fair and the earlier mentioned Frankfurt Stock Exchange. Frankfurt Airport is one of the world’s busiest international airports and Frankfurt Central Station is one of the largest terminal stations in Europe.

Frankfurt lies in the former American Occupation Zone of Germany, and it was formerly the headquarter city of the U.S. Army in Germany.

      • Mainz
Mainz is the regional capital of Rhineland-Pfalz right across the Rhine River from Wiesbaden in Hessen. There is a bit of rivalry between the two cities regarding which is the more beautiful city with the nicer residents. Mainz certainly gives Wiesbaden a run for its money. Though less green than its neighbor, Mainz has the iconic German facades in the center of town, breathtaking churches, and some very old sites dating back to the Roman era.

Mainz also loves to pay tribute to Gutenberg and his famous invention: the movable-type printing press. Johannes Gutenberg (1400-1468) invented book printing with removable letters. His great achievement did a good turn to Reformation in Germany when there was a need to spread Martin Luther’s translation of the Bible all over Germany and Europe.

You'll find Johannes Gutenberg monument, World Book Printing Museum, and lots of books dedicated to this important inventor over the internet.

Many outstanding landmarks are to be seen in the city: St.Martin’s Cathedral, St.John’s Church and other churches, the former royal palace, the Opera Theater.
