Users Assigned: KazmiNestled on the northern tip of Palawan Island, known for being the gateway to the Bacuit Archipelago, and the most amazing locations on the face of the earth, El Nido sits as a tiny town of sub-standard living conditions amidst some of the most beautiful natural beauty in the Philippines. It is well known around the world for its breathtaking inlets, towering limestone karsts rising out of the Bacuit Bay, the magnificent beaches, and the views looking out towards Cadlao Island. The entire area is a natural resource treasure trove, all of which are covered under a managed resource protected area, meaning visitors don't have to worry about resorts crowding up against the natural beauty. Just keep in mind that since this is a protected area you won’t be able to take any souvenirs home, like shells from the beach, and your baggage will be checked at the airport to make sure you haven't violated any laws.
Some of the best activities in El Nido relate to island hopping, cliff diving, trekking, kayaking, snorkeling, or just sprawling on the beaches. You can hire boats to get you around between the islands, or you can kayak on your own, and camping is one of the major reasons so many people come here. The city itself offers fairly common amenities and accommodations, so don't expect anything luxurious.
In addition, there is no bank in El Nido, which means you need to bring plenty of cash along from one of the nearby cities prior to setting out. If you want a true Filipino experience, you should take the ferry in from Coron, but this is not recommended for travelers who rely on more modern conditions. If you are someone who is a stickler for air-conditioning and modern seating arrangements, you should stick to flying in from Manila. However you choose to come here, El Nido is a backpacker’s paradise, complete with plenty of islands to explore, lush vegetation, and tropical conditions that make for the perfect island getaway.
