Overview You can't Edit
Users Assigned: KazmiTenerife, the largest and most well-known of the Canary Islands, is a major destination for British and German travelers. It is an island which caters for everyone, from romantic get aways, to adventure seekers, to 18-30 year olds looking for a good time.
Located in the Atlantic Ocean, just off the coast of Africa, the island is home to roughly half of the total population of the Canary Islands, with an estimated 10 million tourists coming through every single year, making this one of Spain's busiest resorts.
Tenerife boasts an enviable year-round sun record and is a relatively short flight from most parts of Europe, including the UK. In addition to its marvellous climate (though, it tends to get some wind and rain in the North), the island offers a varied landscape of lush forests, deserts, mountains, volcanos and majestic coastlines.
Tenerife beaches are very generous and there are now mostly white/light sandy ones (thanks to imports from the Sahara), although there are still a few of the more traditional black volcanic sand beaches. There are plenty of scuba diving and water sport activities available, and each of the resort towns sports its own unique vibe.
Tenerife is also home to one of the world’s largest carnivals, the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which is currently working its way towards becoming a World Heritage listing, which it would share with La Laguna, already a designated World Heritage city.
Prior to the arrival of mass air transit, Tenerife was nothing more than a poor little farming village focused on banana crops. However, the advent of air travel and the island's year round sunshine and geographic situation (it benefits from African weather, but without the long-haul flight) have led to its rapid transformation into one of Europe’s hottest island destinations.
Add to these advantages, impressive natural sights such as El Teide, the 12,193 foot giant mountain rising above the clouds, the hiking trails at Parque Rural de Anaga and the scenic drives throughout the island, and it is easy to see why this place has become so popular over the years.
Whether it’s lazing around on the beach, trawling through the warm waters, hiking through mountains and forests, or simply relaxing in the confines of your all-inclusive resort, Tenerife has everything to offer the modern traveler, and once you arrive you will find yourself wishing that your vacation could go on forever.
