  • Overview You can't Edit

Holland House itself is estimated to have been built in the 1850s and is one of the most charming oldest homes in New Zealand!
But if history isn’t so much your thing you will love the peace and quiet afforded by our beautiful home. Whether you wish to go out and explore, or relax and read a book in the garden – the choice is yours. We also offer a guided brewery tour on certain days.

After a long day of enjoying the Nelson sunshine why not relax in the garden under the setting sun, or kick back on the sofa and enjoy a local wine or craft beer or better yet! Soak up a long day’s sightseeing in the relaxing hot-tub.

You will find Holland House nestled among Nelson city itself and the growing city of Richmond in the historic suburb of Stoke. If you are coming from the top of the south island via Blenheim you will find us by following State Highway 6 along the picturesque waterfront, following the signs for the airport until you reach the roundabout that has World Of Wearable Arts adjoining it. Take a left here onto Nayland Road and follow this past another historic home - Broadgreen House, going through one more roundabout before turning right onto Aldinga Ave.
If you are coming from the South, via Murchison or the Buller district, follow State Highway 6 toward the airport, exiting the highway at the roundabout next to Hirepool and turning left at the next roundabout opposite The World Of Wearable arts onto Nayland Road. From there follow the same directions as above.

Your hosts offer free pick-up and drop-off (depending on prior arrangements and timings) from Nelson Airport or Nelson Bus Station.
Your hosts can also offer the use of Bicycles for up to 2 people. If your party is larger, there is a reputable bike tour hire walking distance along Nayland Road.
Walking distance to the quaint and ever popular Honest Lawyer pub, sit back and relax in the sun with some of New Zealands finest beers or spend a romantic evening watching the sun set over the water. Or if you prefer Tapas, the Mercure Kitchen is just across the road from the Honest Lawyer.
Also walking distance to Stoke shops, featuring a supermarket, cafes, bakery, ethnic food eateries and a sports bar with affordable but quality food.
The local bus service leaves from Stoke shops and is easily accessible.

Brewery Tour: one of your hosts is an avid beer fan and can take you on a tour of the town and surrounding area sampling some of the 13 breweries on offer. If Wine is more your thing he does not mind taking you to the wineries also. Tour has additional cost that can be negotiated at booking.

Nelson Markets: A must for anybody coming to Nelson over a weekend. A bustling hive of local crafts and artisans, treats and delights. Located in town but your hosts maybe able to take you as one of them sometimes has a stall at the market.

WOW Museum: The World of Wearable Arts was a Nelson made wonder but grew too big for the town and has such shifted to Wellington. The museum remains to display some of the more amazing relics featured and is constantly updated as the years change - it also has a classic car museum attached for those not so keen on clothes or art.

Abel Tasman: Whether you wish to walk it or kayak it, you cannot come to this part of the world without experiencing the best National Park that New Zealand has to offer. Day trips are popular but water taxis must be booked at least a month in advance over the summer months.

Lake Rotoiti: Regarded as one of the most instragrammed spots in New Zealand, Lake Rotoiti is the gateway to the Nelson Lakes national park. A short hours drive will take your breath away as you experience the true beauty that this country has to offer.

Kaiteriteri Beach: Another popular spot for Instragram, this beach has the most unique golden sand you simply have to see it to believe it. Take a day to relax, soak up the sun and laze in the safe crystal clear waters. Or rent a kayak and paddle out to explore the sights and nearby Split Apple Rock.

Tahunanui Beach: A local playground, this beach is the perfect spot in the summer to spend the day enjoying the sun, surf and sand. In between lazing on the beach, why not explore the local petting zoo or fun park, go-karts or even roller rink? It's all here and it guarantees a fun family day out.

Pics Peanut Butter! Might not be famous internationally just yet but I am sure it eventually will be! This is the best peanut butter you will ever try, I promise.

Bat Country Clothing! T-Shirt and clothing brand specializing in geek abstract humor, look out for them at the markets or ask one of your hosts where you might be able to see their selection.

Art! Nelson is home to some of the most talented artists in the world, you won't have to look far to find an Art Gallery - you could spend 2-3 days touring them around the area.

Beer and Wine! Nelson has the most craft breweries per capita in the country and is consistently among the award winners. The same goes for wine - although not quite as many wineries as the Marlborough region, Nelson produces some of the finest Reislings among other varieties.

Antiques! If you love fossicking and hunting Antiques, you have come to the right place. Your hosts can point you toward a great number of antique dealerships as well as local antique auctions.

East India Takeaways: Indian take away establishment, walking distance from Holland House located on Main Road Stoke, in the Stoke Shops.

Hong Yun Chinese Restaurant: Chinese food, can either eat in or take away, friendly and welcoming staff.

    Mid-Range:
The Honest Lawyer: English & New Zealand style meals, highly recommend the steak and guiness pie, ten minutes walk from Holland House.

Two Little Fish: Traditional New Zealand fish and chip takeaway albeit slightly more higher priced than is traditional but the quality of the food makes up for it.

    Up-Market:
The Mercure Kitchen: Opposite the Honest Lawyer, Tapas style menu, high quality food. Walking distance from Holland House.

There are plenty of other eating options, including some amazing 5-Star restaurants but they require a short drive
