Overview You can't Edit
Users Assigned: bendeckoOne of the six main ski stations in the Grandvalira ski-resort - the others being Grau Roig, Funicamp (from Encamp), Soldeu, Pas de la Casa and El Tarter.
You take the 6 person cable car up from the village itself (not free parking in Canillo). It has a ski school, medical clinic, restaurant complex and large sun terrace with play park.
There are only a couple of pistes terminating here, and a couple of chair-lifts - but the aspect is perfect as it is south facing.

Getting there? You can't Edit
Users Assigned: bendeckoThe ski station is only accessible by the cable car from Canillo town. You can ski from any of the other Grandvalira ski stations via the mountain.
Parking is available in Canillo town (for those without hotel, apartment or chalet parking), but it is fairly expensive.
If you are coming from further afield you may prefer to park in either El Tarter or Grau Roig car parks and take the telecabina up - these both have big car parks and are free.
There is a track suitable for 4x4 which would be passable in the summer; in the winter the snow is likely to make it not possible. All the grandvalira ski stations (up the mountains) are connected by pistes, so you can start in Canillo and ski halfway across the country all the way to the French border at Pas de la Casa.

Summer Activities You can't Edit
Users Assigned: bendeckoSummer in Canillo can be something special. The cable car is open in the holidays and at the top of the mountain they keep a few ski monitors employed skeleton-staffing the place. It is lovely time of year to come, hardly anyone around, and the weather is typically amazing blue-skies and hot in the sunshine. At the top of the mountain there is very little noise, and is super peaceful. There is a "lake", actually a man-made water reservoir that they operate a few canoes, and peddle-boats, and this year I saw some "one-child" pedalos (very cute) -
Zip Line You can't Edit
Users Assigned: bendeckoThis is a new feature since summer 2016. It was free as part of the MontMagic summer promotion, but my 10 year old son was unable to have a go as he was below the height limit.
The guys operating appeared to be local young lads, and appeared professional.
It appears that it will be operating in the winter, according to the Grandvalira site.
There are some limits reproduced here:
The Mon(t) Magic Family Park Canillo has a zip line of 550 meters route with a height of 40 meters and speeds up to 80 km / h downhill.
This activity can be performed in the following ways:
· Sitting position being necessary to weight minimum 35 kg and máximum 120kg
· Extended position or hang gliding, minimum weight 50 kg and máximum 115kg
· Tandem mode (child + adult), children from 20kg mínimum; minimum weight together (child + adult) 105kg, maximum overall weight (adult + child) 120kg.
It’s an opportunity to enjoy the best views over the lake ’Llac del Forn’ and experience the adrenaline in the heart of nature.
The activity will also remain active in summer season, being operational and available to visitors and skiers during almost all year long.
Important:
For this activity you must have ski pass either skier or pedestrian ski pass.
Activity available from 09:30 am.

After the activity you must walk 5 minutes to the Junior Chairlift.

What can you eat here? You can't Edit
Users Assigned: bendeckoThere are three main places to eat. A snack bar serving hotdogs and hamburgers at one end of the long terrance. A cafeteria with glass displays of the sandwiches and desserts in the centre, and at the far end a full service restaurant for the typical Andorran big lunch. There is a terrace that runs the whole way along offering super-spectacular views. -
Views You can't Edit
Users Assigned: bendeckoMost ski-stations have good views, but this one (together with the restaurant at Funicamp) are particularly good. If you have family members that maybe cannot get on the pistes, but want to dine in-style with a breathtaking view; this this place is a good option. You can walk quite easily from the termination of the cable car, utilising a covered-way for most of the distance, just some snow to get past - wear good boots. -
Mini-Golf You can't Edit
Users Assigned: bendeckoSummer activity: there is a nine hole mini-golf circuit. It is a bit "weather-worn" - the ball rolls a little randomly, and doesn't include any fancy obstacles but play is included in the price of the mon(t)magic ticket - the attendant charges a euro deposit for the ball which is returned. -
Tubing You can't Edit
Users Assigned: bendeckoThere is a "tubbing" ride (as it is known in Spain) here in the summer. It utilises the baby-piste conveyor to bring the tubes and the kids back. They hose water down the slope to make the tubes slide. The kids 7 & 10 enjoyed this greatly, and you can have unlimited goes with the hand-band ticket purchase. They have to put on a helmet and hair-protector (maybe helps prevent lice transmission in the helmet - good idea anyway). -
Inflatable Castle You can't Edit
Users Assigned: bendeckoThere was one large inflatable castle. It can be very quiet so was perfect for the kids as they got the thing to themselves. It was a bit hot under the blazing sun, but great fun anyway. The price is included in the day ticket.

Llop GrisThis hotel is probably about as close as you get to the bottom of the El Tarter piste without actually being on it. Hotel Palarine
The Palarine Hotel/Bamboo Restaurant, is a welcoming place to stay and eat in Andorra. The hotel welcomes skiers, mostly from the UK & Ireland, and the restaurant/bar is hub of expat life.
Graham is the friendly manager/landord and together with his chinese wife Maria they expertly run the Palarine (and the bamboo restaurant).
The chinese food is excellent and unique in this part of the world - other chinese restaurants in the area (of which there are very few anyway) serve nothing like it. Well known and respected, locals come all the way from La Vella and La Massana to enjoy the food.
There is a "english pub" atmosphere to the place (without the cigarette smoke), as many of the local british expats tend to often congregate here. Big screen TVs play important sports games.

Mirador Roc Del Quer
The Mirador Roc del Quer is an extended platform out into the valley with a sculpture of a bronze man sitting on the end of a girder. Art and engineering combine to make a natural and man made spectacle.
You will have seen it high up above Canillo village if you staying there or skiing there.
Perfect for a morning or afternoon stroll for young and old: 5/10 mins walk from the car park - get a fantastic view of the Canillo valley, or alternatively double-check you still get vertigo.
Certainly open in the summer; check access in winter - the mayor of canillo pronounced that it would be open in winter too, at the opening ceremony - but best to check with these things; heavy snowfall will block the road and access path for sure.

BPConsistently the cheapest petrol station in Andorra. Located on the main CG2 that runs from Spain to France.
Difficult (and dangerous) to access coming south from the France direction, as it's a fast road and you'll have to cross the opposing carriageway to turn left. Grandvalira Estació de Ski El TarterThis year 2016/17 we have a new lower base station (looks like a big mushroom) that has been built over and under the existing lower gondola terminal. Contains ticket desks, coffee shop and funky LED maps showing which pistes are open or closed. Visited during the summer, it offers a lot of activities and entertainment for the whole family. With a bracelet that you buy at the base of the cable car you can access different games or activities to do then in the top station. Very funny and beautiful landscapes, also for trekking is not bad, I recommend a visit if you are in Andorra for a few days.

The best ski resort in the Pyrenees !! Great, lovely, and good snow, a lot of pre-ski always brutal and extracurricular activities at the ski resort !! Highly recommended.

- Pal station suffering from intermittent cable car breakdowns. Replacement bus service from La Massana. This bus service is just one bus going up and down. 30min interval.
- Andorra Freeriders - Avalanche report from Arcalis on 16.12.17. - A medium to large (for Andorra in recent years) powder slide was triggered by the 3 or 4th person who had hiked from the lift into the large gully / couloir below Pic d'Arcalis (as far as I'm aware no one was hurt)-There will be nothing but ice and rock in there today!) The general Avi risk is listed by authorities as 2/5 today. However, this is a generalised area view and does not fully consider the effect of the extreme winds...
