Gozo is the small island 6km off the coast of Malta. Access can be made using the Gozo Channel ferry which departs from Cirkewwa on mainland Malta to Mgarr on Gozo. Ferrys run approximately every 45 mins and the journey takes between 20 - 25 minutes depending on weather conditions. Alternatively you can take a trip on the seaplane.

Farming and fishing is the main activity of the islanders and the majority of Gozo's villages are set on hilltops leaving the slopes and valleys for the cultivation of fruit and vegetables.

Tourists mainly arrive for the day and take in the sights of The Citadel, the Temples of Ggantija, The Azure Window, Inland sea and the fishing villages of Marsalforn and Xlendi.

Development has been discreet and the majority of the island remains unspoilt.

    • Mellieha
Mellieha is located at the North of Malta, and is one of the key tourism towns on the Island. It houses quite a few hotels, cafes etc and one long sweeping beach with a good amount of cleaner water. The beaches are maintained during the tourists seasons, which means they are cleaned daily, however outside of tourism seasons they are usually left untouched.

One of the lesser known attractions of mellieha is the small wildlife sanctury found at the edge of the town, it is the only area designated purely for protection of birds, and as such security is tough, though it is open to tourists and schools at limited times of the day. Whereas its not the only designated 'green space' (even football stadiums in Malta are given this designation) it is a sign that conservation in Malta may yet be starting.
      Mellieha, Malta
    • Bugibba
If Qwara is the new then Bugibba is the old. Located towards the very Northen tip of Malta, it is one of the 'old towns' in the transition towards tourism. There are many tourist sites across Malta, however the effects are less evident here. Whereas there are still tourist shops and hotels present, the development has not been as heavy.

The rocky beaches that surround the towns borders are preferred by the locals, as they need less management then other sandy beaches across the island (these are only managed seasonally). However due to the majority of the rocky coastline being flat many locations are suitable for sunbathing. However, there is a small sandy beach at the head of St Paul's Bay.

The square of Bugibba holds many cafes and places of interest, however, this is a trade off as developments are becoming more tourist based. The square becomes a hive of activity after dark with numerous bars, clubs, karaoke bars attracting the locals as well as the tourists. There is also a Bingo hall and Casino to try your luck in.

    • Mosta
Mosta is one of the inland towns of Malta, located a short distance North West of Valetta. Mosta is a busy township and also a market town.

The most noticeable attraction of Mosta is its grand church. This church boasts the broadest unsupported dome in the World, with an internal diameter of 37.2 meters and walls nearly 9.1 meters (30 ft.) thick. making the church a marvel of architecture. A WWII bomb hit the roof of this church but failed to detonate, as a tribute to the church's survival a replica of the bomb can be found near the church. This acts as the main tourist pull to the town.

    • Mdina
Mdina is the old capital of Malta whose earliest inhabitants date back to 4000 BC. Mdina is approximately 10km from Valletta. The fortified and walled town is known as the "Silent City" due to its narrow and quiet streets. Most of Mdina's palaces serve as private homes. The impressive Cathedral of the Conversion of St Paul is fronted by a large square .

Commanding a magnificent view of the Island, Mdina maintained a strategic position on the island due to its central location, highest point on the island and its distance from the sea and due to its location can be seen for miles.

Currently only city residents are allowed to bring their cars within the city gates, which lead to the calming affect described by many visitors. Mdina is definitely a pedestrian's paradise.
