Caye Caulker is a small island in the Carribean Sea, approximately 20 miles from the Belizean mainland. The entire island is only five miles long and one mile wide, and the primary modes of transportation are bicycle, golf cart and on foot. The island is accessible by water taxi and by air.

Along with nearby Amergris Caye, Caye Caulker is one of Belize's premier tourist destinations, famous for its snorkeling and diving opportunities. Tourists come to Caye Caulker to snorkel in Shark Ray Alley, dive the Blue Hole, go on manatee-sighting tours, or just to relax. In contrast to the more resort-laiden Ambergris, Caye Caulker has many budget options and is popular among backpackers.

In 1961, Hurricane Hattie forever changed Caye Caulker by splitting the island in two. The north end of the island is now separated from Caye Caulker Village by a narrow channel known as "The Split". Both ends are still collectively known as Caye Caulker.

      • Ambergris Caye
By far the most developed of the islands that make up Belize, Ambergris Caye is also the largest of the islands, set in the northernmost section of the group. This is the premier destination for tourists around the world when they come to Belize, and it offers a distinctly relaxed and laid-back vibe that you won't find in other destinations, because there is a restriction on high-rise hotels and a focus on the simplicity of island living. Roughly 40 km along and 1.6 km wide, Ambergris Caye is for the most part nothing more than a giant mass of sandy beaches surrounding a mangrove swamp that makes up the center of the island. The only town on the island San Pedro Town, although there are a variety of villages and resorts that stretch their way out like webs from the hub of San Pedro.

In addition to the variety of beaches and laid-back atmosphere, Ambergris Caye offers access to the Belize Barrier Reef, which is the second-largest in the world after the Great Barrier Reef of Australia. Initially nothing more than a fishing town, the island transformed in the 1970s into a tourist destination that now draws visitors from all around the world. And unlike many of the coastal retreats scattered throughout the surrounding area, Ambergris Caye offers what is considered reasonably affordable accommodations, making for a budget destination that offers the amenities of a luxury spot.

Diving along the reef is probably one of the popular things to do outside of simply enjoying the local color, and while there are plenty of beaches, they're definitely not the only thing to experience. From the resorts to the waters to the mangrove swamps and the beaches, Ambergris Caye offers a wide variety of experiences for the adventurer just looking to kick back for a few days in absolute relaxation without worrying about high prices or major crowds.

        • I love this gorgeous place in the Caribbean sea! There's a lot of sea life, and the food, places, music, everything is amazing!!! There are many things to do over there like going to the blue hole or just snorkeling.. Just love those Caribbean vibes!
        • Spent 4 days on the island! Had a great time, lots of great food and many different tours and adventures available all over the island. Grab a sausage from Otis on the beach, you won't be disappointed!
        • Water, Diesel, moorage, anchorage and 24 hours of party. Best of the Caribbean! Be careful of anchoring out of the barge delivery area. It is not well marked so ask your fellow boater. And have fun! Kite surfing! Diving! Snorkeling! Sailing! Power boating!Bar hopping!
        • Very beautiful island. Fully recommended; just like myself, you would definitely enjoy your stay
        • Best holiday destinations. Friendliest and cheeky people. Best atmospheric in the world. So relaxing. As all the locals would say. "Go slow"
