I'm an American, currently living and working in Paris.

I just accepted a job offer in London and my future employer is starting the paperwork to sponsor my Tier 2.

I saw on the hefty list of paperwork as part of the sponsorship procedure I'll have to have a biometric appointment at a visa processing center and surrender my US passport to the overseas British Diplomatic Post for a few weeks.

I assume this can be done at the UK consulate in Paris? I won't have to do something wonky like go back to the US to do this right?

Anyone have experience with a non-EU partner applying for the EU Settlement scheme?

I'm Dutch and my boyfriend is Brazilian, next week we're going to NL to get a civil partnership and then he can apply to the scheme, or so we understood.

I know he can't be in the UK to apply and he needs to give biometrics, but can anyone tell me more?

What other documents do we need, how long will it take?

Once he is in the process, can he already come back with me or only once everything is 100% done?

I get access to information that in Germany if you have a job offer equal to (or more) than €65.000, you will be considered as highly qualified and get on-the-spot Permanent residency.

Is that correct and does anyone have experience with the procedure? ps: No, I don't have a similar offer, but, I'm just curious to know in details.

I'm looking at moving to the Gulf. Advice needed. From what I can see these two; Abu Dhabi and Dubai are the ones in closest contention for me. I'm into arts and food; so I'm thinking the more laid back approach of Abu Dhabi maybe suit me better. There are more flights from where I live to Dubai, but from what I read is that Dubai will run out of oil in maybe 10 years, whereas they will keep pumping in Abu Dhabi until long after I'm gone. This will likely have an impact on property values in the near future? I don't know how reliant Dubai still is on it's oil - I'd guess a lot? What does the future hold?

Some of my family are looking to come to Antalya for a 12 month period. Does anybody have information on how one gets residency these days? Can they still come in on tourist visa and then apply? or must they do the application on home soil prior? Thanks for any advice

Good Morning Travellers and Worldly People. I've been thinking about this for sometime, and now it looks like brexit is happening soon, I'm going to look for another country to live in. But where do I go? I'm not frightened to learn another language, or change my passport, I just don't feel like I want to English anymore. Ideally though I'd find someplace where they are less xenophobic than where I'm from. From my googling I can see that Barbados is supposed to be a little england, and I've been to Gibraltar but that looks very expensive. Are there any communities that "think" like English people more or less - just have a more worldly view?
