      Filter By Tags:

      • Port Angeles
Port Angeles calls itself "the center of it all for the Olympic Penisula." It's the place to start a day trip to Hurricane Ridge or explore the Olympic National Park...the place to start for kayaking, for biking, for hiking, for shopping or for relaxing. You can catch a ferry to Victoria, a trip to the Pacific beaches or a trip to the lavender fields of neighboring Sequim.

Port Angeles has a rich heritage, politically, militarily and economically. President Abraham Lincoln ordered a reservation of land here in 1862 for a lighthouse and military use. Later Port Angeles became a town site reserve, and by Congressional act in March, 1863, Port Angeles was designated as America's Second National City, the alternative capital of the United States.

The sidewalks of downtown Port Angeles offer amazing views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Olympic National Park from anywhere in town. It is surrounded by miles of beautiful coastline, beaches and pristine forests. As you visit downtown enjoy the spectacular scenery, friendly people, delightful shops and wonderful restaurants.

      • Quinault
The Quinault is an unincorporated town in the Quinault rain forest in Olympic National Park in Washington. The town is on Lake Quinault and contains various resorts and touristy areas. The temperate rain forest gets 12 feet of rain per year! The area is very green and very wet. There are several hiking trails in the area and lots of big trees.

Quinault is just under 3 hours from Seattle or about 2.5 hours from Port Angeles, Washington.
        Quinault, WA 98575, USA
      • Sequim
Sequim is called the Lavender Capital of North America and holds its Lavender Festival in mid-July. It is sunnier than most of its neighbors since it is located in the "rainshadow" of the Olympic mountains. Although the Olympic mountains are snow-capped for most of the year very little snow falls in the Sequim Valley.

Over the last decade, Sequim has worked to increase its tourism base to appeal to more people. With the Olympic National Forest, fish hatchery, Dungeness Spit, Hurricane Ridge, Salt Creek State Park, and several other outdoors activity in the area, Sequim is the largest population on the Peninsula, rivaled only by Port Angeles 30 miles to the west.

Sequim also serves as the gateway to enjoying much of the western half of the North Olympic Peninsula.

        • An absolute must-visit. You can see Alpine mountains with a glacier, temperate rainforests, and rugged coastal beaches in a day. But definitely spend more then one day. Three days a least. Awesome things to do outside the park as well. Summer is super busy. Fall is quieter but the weather is still beautiful.
        • Really a great place. A lot of nature. And within an hour you can drive up to top of the mountains, where we had meters of snow in April. Europeans should remind themselves that distances are much larger in the US. Take the ETA of the GPS and add 1/3 for stops and orientation. This area was ok for a one day trip but you can easily stay one week or more.
        • Absolutely amazing place! We only had a few hours for our visit and it was early April, so some parts were still inaccessible. We hiked the Heart O' the Hills trail and it was breathtakingly beautiful. It was not a difficult hike, but can be muddy. We also went to Madison Falls. This is a very short, paved trail to a beautiful waterfall.
        • How amazing of a day was this weather was clear skies yes even in Washington. I was taken away but the size of the Cedar Trees I saw. The beautiful scwnice views. This was an amazing trip. I couldn't have asked for a better time. This is a must see for anyone who enjoys the beautiful side of mother nature. The serenity and silence in the woods is just breath taking.it was just so amazing. Saw a few deer, squirrels, and alot of birds. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience and one of the best family vacations I've ever had.
        • One of the most beautiful places on the Earth. There's a lot to explore here. You can visit this national park any time of the year. Some places need you to have passes. Plan ahead. Don't forget to visit the rain forest. When visiting during the winter you may need to carry chains for the tyres. There are a lot of treks, waterfalls, lakes, forests. There are many beautiful beaches nearby. You can see plenty of sea life during low-tides. There are a few historic places as well and Indian reservations. You will need a lot of time to explore the entire park. Won't be possible to cover in a single visit. Plan ahead. Enjoy the Northwest!
