  The nargile, or Turkish water pipe, is a centerpiece of Istanbul’s social setting. Commonly known as a hookah, there are various places throughout the city where you can literally sit down and simply smoke. Tobaccos range from fruit flavored to vanilla and chocolate and more, and should absolutely be enjoyed. In addition, Turkish coffee and Turkish delight are two of the most important things to taste while you are in Istanbul, because you will not find better anywhere else in the world. On top of that, Turkish cuisine is legendary, and there are the literally hundreds of restaurants to choose from. Between the mosques,the churches,the synagogues, the castles, the restaurants, the gardens, the nargile cafes, and the otherworldly feel of the place, Istanbul will leave you wondering if it was all just a dream, and waiting for the next time you can experience her charms.

  Built in the 1560s, the Mihrimah Sultan Mosque Complex (Mihrimah Sultan Camii) in Edirnekapı was commissioned by the famous Ottoman sultan Süleyman I (Süleyman the Magnificent) for his favorite daughter Princess Mihrimah. The structure was built by talented chief architect Mimar Sinan and similar to other Ottoman imperial mosques, this structure was built as a mosque complex including a madrasa (religous high school), hamam, tomb, and a row of shops underneath the mosque. Other important structures built by Mimar Sinan are Süleymaniye Mosque Complex, Rüstem Paşa Mosque, Kılıç Ali Paşa Mosque Complex, and many others. Unfortunately, shops are not surviving. In terms of architecture, Mihrimah Sultan Mosque in Edirnekapı is unique, because the whole mosque is covered with a monumental dome 37 meters in height and 20 meters in diameter. In addition, the surface area of the mosque is decorated with hundreds of windows and these characteristics of the mosque make it one of the brightest Ottoman mosques.

  It's one of the best mosques I've prayed in. The bathrooms aren't very clean, but there are mirrors, sinks, places to wash up before prayer (summer/winter), prayer clothes for women, books, etc. Loved the architecture, too!

  If you stop by on Üsküdar. Do not forget to visit Mihrimah Sultan Mosque too. It is just right beside the port and Marmaray metro station. This mosque was built by Mimar Sinan. The best architect in Ottoman's period. This mosque is twin. You can find it's twin at Edirnekapı, the Europe side of Istanbul. Üsküdar is known to be one of the best spot to catch the sunset too in Turkey. So it will be really nice if you can shoot 'the golden hour' from the mosque as well. From the mosque you can feel as the time bring you back to the Ottoman's period. It is because the light colored tumeric as the sunset sky on the horizon. You will find it really beautiful in different and romantic way. The harmonized ezan's sound also will become a perfect combination with the view. People love it as they said 'because it bring peace to your heart as you stare to the horizon line'. If you are curious, just come right away to Üsküdar. You can use Marmaray if you are in Europian side or metro Üsküdar-Yemenevler if you are in Asian side. Do not forget to buy simit on you way there, so you can feed seagulls too and feel the sensation to cross two continents by ship.
