      • Sydney

If you look at the iconic Opera House and Harbor Bridge of Sydney to the open-air cinemas and essential beachside BBQs, Sydney’s enjoyably loud and brash take on culture incorporates bring your own beer (BYO) restaurants, beach bums galore and plenty in the way of international influences.

The harbor is the perfect place to start out, admiring the sail-influenced architecture of the Opera House before heading inside to get involved in the art scene and catch a concert, or sitting outside and ogling the harbor with a glass of wine in hand. It’s best to stay off the booze before heading up the Harbor Bridge, though, where you can get strapped in and walk along the thin metal arches, eying the harbor from a massive height. Not one for vertigo sufferers.

Next up is the beach, and Bondi is the one everyone wants to see, famous for its expansive (and ever busy) white sands, eclectic artistic community, abundance of red skin on display and beachfront community of shops, restaurants and beer-swilling bars. If that doesn't grab you, there are 70 other beaches on the ocean (and even more inside the harbour).

The place to grab a flavor of old world Sydney is ‘The Rocks’, cobbled market streets full of old-world, handmade souvenirs and gastronomic delights. Glebe Markets are another hippie haven, and the place to pick up art supplies, second hand books and jewelry to die for amongst the laid-back atmosphere of a Bohemian community.

If you want an overview of it all, climb through the Botanic Gardens to Lady Macquarie’s Chair to stare at the Opera House and the seaside vistas, or contemplate life at Blues Point - all but under the Harbor Bridge - while watching the world and his tug boat float by before your eyes.

Sydney lies right at the heart of Australia’s fun-loving, sun-soaking, beer-necking society, yet goes much deeper in terms of culture and class, as well as being home to some of the world’s most memorable architecture. Come at Christmas, and experience a hot 30-degree BBQ in a Santa costume, before heading up the coast and enjoying the life of a carefree beach bum. It is Heaven.

        • This is not merely a dissatisfied entry, this is is an account of a horrific incident that I feel I really have no choice other than to share. I think it's vital that the owner of the Marlborough incite a discussion with management regarding the treatment of patrons, because to experience bullying on a night out is awful. The mayhem into which this business is descending is demonstrative of the sort of neglect an establishment experiences when it attracts patrons based on its location, historical value and not its service; slowly the Marlborough is becoming notorious for bouncers who exploit their authority and alienate their patrons, all at the expense of the business thriving. I pleaded with the bouncers on duty late Wednesday night for some water. I was feeling extremely unwell and just wanted them to help me as nothing else was open. The discourse turned emotional as they began to defend their rights as bouncers to not let me in, calling me intoxicated etc, all which was irrelevant because I was asking them on a human level to please escort me in for some water, then I will leave. I was clearly in a very poor state, but they kept asserting their right to not let me in. As I walked away, they yelled at me, calling me a c***. I spoke to the manager on duty today, he was entirely uninterested and didn't ask me what had happened. I just left. It is one thing to have an argument with a bouncer, it is another to not observe fundamental levels of human decency. Security cannot be this emotional about discourse with patrons. This yelling was really deranged, I felt unsafe and to have spent so much time and money here and not be helped when I'm feeling so unwell was actually just mean, that's the only word I can think of. The security were mean, mean blokes, and me and the friends I was with will literally boycott this place for the rest of our lives. Please understand this will never affect us again, but this is slowly bringing your business into disrepute, and you should really do something about it.
        • Great atmosphere, good food and drink. Staff are a little blank, no service with a smile...
        • I find the long queue not quite justified for the inside environment at times in the weekend. I suppose being one of the bars opened till much later is a bonus. Some nights the bands playing are great whilst other nights isn't that great. Drinks are decent priced though
        • Great Coopers, funky bar staff and a cool band. Was bounced out for a yawn. Won't be my local.....
        • Excellent as always being of sufficient base standard to satisfy most needs at this time of the night.
