      • Calistoga
Calistoga is at the north end of the Napa Valley Calistoga AVA, part of California's Wine Country. Thus there are numerous wineries within a short drive, including Chateau Montelena Winery, Sterling Winery and Schramsberg Vineyards.

Calistoga is very motorcycle-friendly, and the roar of loud bikes can be heard in and around the town on most weekends. Citations are not issued by police to owners of loud bikes, as the town wants to extend a welcome rather than discourage visitors on two wheels. Judging by the many Harleys parked nearby, Buster's Southern BBQ and Susie's Bar are easily the most biker-friendly of the businesses in Calistoga.

Calistoga itself is noted for its hot springs spas such as Calistoga Spa Hot Springs. A local specialty is immersion in hot volcanic ash, known as a mud bath. Nearby attractions include an artificial geothermal geyser known as the "Old Faithful of California" or "Little Old Faithful".

Calistoga is blessed by distinct seasons with a high proportion of sunny, smog-free days. Nights range from crisp and cool to pleasantly warm in the summer. Annual temperatures range from an average summer high of 92 to an average winter low of 36.Annual rainfall can reach 36 inches.

      • Santa Rosa
Santa Rosa is the county seat for Sonoma County and located approximately 60 miles north of San Francisco. It has been touted as the city where "everything comes together". There is wine and farm country, rivers, lakes, the ocean, and redwood forests.

The downtown region has unique shopping and dining, making this a popular destination. Santa Rosa is also home to the Charles Schultz museum, which is a must see!

The April 18, 1906, San Francisco Earthquake essentially destroyed the entire downtown, but the city's population did not greatly suffer. However, after that period the population growth of Santa Rosa, as with most of the area, was very slow. Although most of Santa Rosa's commercial buildings were destroyed in the 1906 earthquake, almost all of its numerous houses survived and most have survived to this day. As a result, Santa Rosa has a number of old neighborhoods in and around downtown, several historically designated. These contain numerous old homes, including many Victorians. Most of these are on quiet, often tree-lined streets.

Santa Rosa has been a popular film location. Famed director Alfred Hitchcock filmed his thriller Shadow of a Doubt in Santa Rosa in 1943; the film gives glimpses of Santa Rosa in the 1940s. Many of the downtown buildings seen in the film no longer exist due to major reconstruction following the strong earthquakes in October 1969. However, some, like the rough-stone Northwestern Pacific Railroad depot and the prominent Empire Building (built in 1910 with a gold-topped clock tower), still survive. A scene at the bank was filmed at the corner of Fourth Street and Mendocino Avenue (at present day Old Courthouse square); sharp-eyed viewers can also identify the "KRESS" building on Fourth Street. However, the courthouse and bank are now gone. The Coen brothers' 2001 film The Man Who Wasn't There is set in Santa Rosa circa 1949.

Apart from the well known wine region, hiking trails and parks provide opportunities for spotting wildlife, only 10 minutes from town! And the new Joe Rodota trail provides a walking and biking trail, connecting downtown Santa Rosa to the neighboring town of Sebastopol.

      • Napa
Located in the southern end of the wine country this town of about 75,000 population sits in the valley of Napa county of northern California.

It is best known for the many wineries that dot the landscape in this part of the county and the Napa Valley Wine Train. There are several smaller communities near Napa with superb bed and breakfast lodging, as well as up to five star dining. Some travelers base out of somewhat less pricey Sonoma County(West of Napa).

The weather is quite warm in the summer and cool in the winter. Rainfall is low in the region. This is one of the reasons that the grapes grow so well, it takes this kind of climate and not very good soil to make the vines work hard and produce great grapes for wine.

Bike trips through the valley prove to be a great way to visit different, smaller wineries.

        • Simply put, one of the best wineries in wine country! The grounds, the art, the people, and most importantly, the wine are outstanding and will make you want to never go back to the same old wine ever again. They have wines for every wine drinker and not just that but everything they make is stellar. There are very few wineries I can say that I have enjoyed every single wine I tried and this is one of them. If you're serious about wine, do yourself a favor and book their Ultimate Cabernet or Platinum Experience. It's the best way to experience the full breadth of wines and in an intimate setting.
        • The grounds here are so relaxing. I visited this winery with a group of girls. We purchased 2 bottles for a decent price and watched the sun set on their large comfy chairs. There were infinity water features that created a tranquil atmosphere and the weather was perfect for a winter day in February. If you want to have some fun there are fun outdoor activities like lawn bowling and corn hole. The inside of this place is also breath taking. There is a large mural upon entering and the floor to ceiling windows in the tasting room bring in all the natural light and allow you to see gorgeous St. Helena. I will definitely be back!
        • Hall was one of our stops on the Napa Valley Wine train. Overall we had a good experience with the wine and tour. They mainly serve bold cabs but they were all delicious. The only issue I had with the tour guide was that a few people asked for a little more of one of the wines and she was not exactly nice about saying no. If you're in the business of selling wine and someone asks for a little more...give it to them. Totally turned us away from buying any.
        • The tasting room, building, and grounds were amazing. My girlfriend and I split a $40 tasting of 5 or 6 wines, the majority being Bold Cabs which we enjoyed. The wines ranged from $45-185/bottle and all tasted great. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. This was one of the more expensive wineries we visited but it was definitely worth it.
        • Currently at a fantastic experience while tasting at hall. Our neighbours had to visit hall if we were seeking meaty reds and hall did not disappoint. We were paired with Eric who treated the experience like we were a guest in his own home. The whole experience was flawless and second to none.
        • If you’re not a member, you are stuck standing while watching all the members having a nice time with lounge seats. Also, there were empty lounge seats everywhere so if you’re not a member I do not recommend even coming for a $40 tasting to stand around while watching others having a better time.
        • A very nice and fancy place. A bit too fancy and expensive for my tastes. The wine was good, but not at a level higher than nearby wineries with more reasonable costs.
        • Did the Platinum Cabernet experience and it was the chance taste some truly epic wines. Always fun to see what art Kathryn and Craig have put into the vineyard as well.
