  Ephesus is one of the most popular tourist destination in Turkey, and it is immediately evident why, from first glance to last minute spent here. One of the 12 cities who were part of the Ionian League during the Classical Greek era, it also spent time as the second largest city in the Roman empire behind only Rome herself, and during the 1st century BC it was the second largest city in the world. It is one of the seven churches of Asia listed in the book of Revelations in the Bible, and was the home of the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. While these days it is technically part of Turkey, everything within the city speaks of ancient Greek and Roman hands, and we are once again reminded of two of the most important civilizations in the history of man.
  
  From the Celsius Library to the massive Roman amphitheater (with seats for close to 44,000 people), to the temple of Hadrian or the Gate of Augustus, everything to see and do in Ephesus revolves around ancient structures. It is also only seen via the power of your own two feet, so be prepared to do some hiking when you come. There are literally dozens of architectural and archaeological wonders to behold in the city, including things like the Basilica of St. John, the Temple of Domitian, and the Fountain of Pollio. While it is possible to see everything in the city within a day, just like you can skim the ruins of Pompeii in a day, the only way to truly experience everything that Ephesus has to offer is by literally immersing yourself in the culture and the environment for several days at the least.
  
  Just keep in mind to bring your own water when heading out to the ruins. Like in downtown Rome, bottled water is beyond expensive; it is literal highway robbery, so bring your own.

• Kusadasi

  Once a haven for those wishing to explore the Aegean coastline of Turkey, Kusadasi has transformed over the years into a package-destination and doubling as a cruise-ship port. Bottom line? While this is the perfect place to come if you want a packaged Turkish holiday complete with British-style pubs and plenty of rip-offs in the form of ridiculous prices, if you are looking for a more authentic Turkish vacation away from the outrageous prices and jaded hospitality you might want to look elsewhere.
  
  Kusadasi sits on the Guvercin Ada peninsula as it juts out into the Aegean, and sits against the backdrop of the Kaz Dagi Mountain. It has a history stretching back to 3,000 BC and contains a variety of stunning architectural wonders both in and around the city itself. This was one of the most important caravan routes from the Orient to the rest of the known world during the early years until the Crusades finally forced things to a halt. The current architecture is mostly a result of the Ottoman Empire, although traces of older ruins from the Byzantine era can still be found in some places.
  
  Kusadasi is primarily a tourist destination for people on cruise ships. As a result, you can expect everything that a traditional tourist-trap would offer; jacked-up prices and wheedling merchants. While there are plenty of historical wonders to explore in the surrounding countryside, such as Kirazli Village some 12 km out or the Byzantine castle of Kadikalesi roughly 10 km out, everything within Kusadasi is going to be targeted towards the money-spending cruise-ship crowd. This is not a budget destination. Still, in typical Aegean and Mediterranean fashion, the sights in and around the city are breathtaking in scope, and the history of the region is rich with cultural significance. Just bring your smarts with you and you will get along just fine.

  I'm reviewing the museum, not the ruins. Lots of reviews on this Google page are about the ruins, and though they're wonderful, this is a separate location and attraction with its own entrance fee down the road from the ruins. This museum houses a large collection of art works excavated from the ruins of Ephesus early in the twentieth century. Housed in an attractive modern gallery, many of the works are stunning. A small-scale ivory frieze of people and animals, probably placed on a mantel, is exquisite. Numerous gold pieces of jewelry and several gold tiaras were also strikingly refined--not big or clunky like much ancient jewelry, but thin, refined and understated. I was reminded of the museum at Corinth by this museum, though presentation of the pieces is more strikingly done here. I debated whether to go to the museum as well after a day at Ephesus. We're glad we did.

  Nice historical place from category "you must see it". It is quite important to arrive early morning to have " as less as possible visitors". Only in this moment you will make best pictures from the places. Whole area takes really time to be discovered. Some of the place are amazing and touch of old times is there. Others looks look like " pile of stones ". But is you look carefully you will discover very interesting details. ENJOY THE PLACE !!

  Leave the bottom car park and turn right to Selcuk - 2 kilometres. At the T junction/ roundabout return on yourself and immediately turn right into the museum car park. The sign posting is poor. This is a new, modern, museum specifically for some of the finds from Ephesus. Unfortunately some of the best pieces ended up in museums in Britain and Germany. There is disabled access. Well worth seeing.

  Paid 40 TL for this. Worth every penny. The place is huge and full of history. Better to go when it's not scorching hot or it will be a tiring walk. Try singing at the theatre and climb up to get the view of the whole theatre and the mountains behind it. And the forget the gorgeous library. Better to go early in the morning to avoid the crowd too.

  One of the most beautiful historical sites in the world. If you have a museum card it is free to enter, otherwise it is around d $10 per person. You can easily spend 2-3 hours, going around in this historic site and won't be able to see everything. The excavation is still going, and new sites are uncovered on a regular basis. It is a must to see.
