• South Lake Tahoe

  South Lake Tahoe is a city in El Dorado County, California, in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The population was 23,609 at the 2000 census. The east end of the city, on the California-Nevada state line, is mainly geared towards tourism, with T-shirt shops, restaurants, hotels, and the Heavenly Ski Resort with the Nevada casinos just across the state line in Stateline, Nevada. Snowboarding, Skiing, Hiking, Mountain Biking, Kayaking, Boating, are just a few things you can do. The roads are slick when wet, impossible with icey.

• Lake Tahoe

  A freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the United States, just along the border between California and Nevada, Lake Tahoe is really a huge alpine lake based in North America, and is one of the major attractions for California and Nevada due to the variety of ski resorts, access to casinos, and the hiking, biking, camping, and other outdoor activities throughout the surrounding mountains. In particular, the Nevada side of the lake includes a variety of casinos, as well as access to Reno and Carson City.
  
  Lake Tahoe has been a fairly important tourist destination for American travelers for over 100 years, although it was the 1960 Olympics which popularized winter sports in the area and transformed many of the surrounding hotels into ski resorts. When looking at the lake from a traveler's perspective, the northern shore is filled with more reserved and peaceful resorts, while the southern shore is lined with casinos. The eastern shore is still fairly undeveloped, and the western side is the rugged and historic section. Considering the entire lakeshore is around 72 miles in length, there's plenty to take in regardless of your preferences.
  
  There are several towns, with Tahoe City and South Lake Tahoe the main ones, although there are a variety of other smaller towns scattered around the lake. Keep in mind that this is a ski resort area, which means heavy snow can be a possibility even as late as June, so if you are driving up on your own, pay attention to the weather or you could find yourself stuck unless you are driving a vehicle that can handle snowy conditions.
  
  Hiking, boating, world class golf courses and outdoor activities are the main reasons for coming here in the summer months, and skiing in the winter, so the experience you have in Lake Tahoe depends entirely on what time of year you come and what you want to see and do. Gambling is year-round.

  Carson City is the capital of Nevada. It is located close to Lake Tahoe and Reno and gets tourism from both. The nearest airport is Reno/Tahoe International Airport which is located about 30 miles away in Reno.

  This was a great place to stay with kids for a weekend in Tahoe. The room was excellent, clean, and comfy if a bit small. Thanks to the microwave and refrigerator, we could prepare meals in our room and keep leftovers. The staff was very helpful with advice for local activities like sledding. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

  Stayed at the alder Inn during a week day getaway in the middle of September to visit with some family. Rooms were nicely decorated with all essentials (like a Kerig coffee maker and coffee pods) provided for. Beds were comfy and room was cozy. We took a fun boat trip tour of the lake recommended by the owners who were friendly, helpful and accommodating. Will definitely be staying here again! Next time during ski season

  Host was very friendly and provided us with tips for places to see the next day. Accommodation was convenient, but not as great as i had imagined it would be for the price. Good place to stop at for an overnight stay.

  An excellent place to stop. Very friendly and helpful staff. The rooms were very nice and comfortable. A short walk away from the marina area.

  Very helpful and friendly couple run this place. Helped us a great deal with where and when to go and when not to go at certain times. Had a small problem with the shower and they fixed it in a jiffy. They make you feel like you're in their home as a guest and not a hotel!
