  There is also the Mount Trashmore Park, and more than 18,000 acres of state parks and national wildlife refuges just outside of the city to explore if you get tired of the beaches. And since Virginia Beach is a resort destination, you can simply choose to relax and indulge in the all-inclusive setting of your chosen resort, simply lazing on the beach and enjoying the amenities. Either way, this is a splendid coastal holiday destination.

• Chesapeake

  Chesapeake, Virginia is not only a small city of 222,528 (as of 2007) but also a county and a historic Revolutionary War battlefield. Chesapeake is one of the seven cities that make up the Hampton Roads or Tidewater area of Virginia, surrounding Chesapeake Bay.
  
  Chesapeake has two major shopping malls, three interstate freeways (I-64, I-264 and I-464), and miles of waterfront industrial, commercial and residential property. Chesapeake is a diverse city with urban areas as well as many square miles of protected forests and wetlands, including the Great Dismal Swamp.
  
  The locks at Great Bridge in Chesapeake at part of the 4,800-km (3,000-mile) recreational and commercial waterway along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of the United States known as The Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. The locks transition from the Southern Branch of the Elizabeth River to the Chesapeake and Albemarle Canal which runs to Knotts Island in North Carolina.
  
  The American Revolutionary War Battle of Great Bridge, which took place on 9 December 1775 resulted in the final defeat of the British in Viginia and destroyed the local British Fort guarding the northern approach to the narrow natural isthmus of Great Bridge.

• Norfolk

  Home to the largest naval base in the world, and featuring a waterfront packed full of typical American food chains, docks, plenty of off-duty sailors, and enough waterfront taverns to fill any seedy novel, Norfolk, Virginia is the second largest city in the state behind Virginia Beach, situated in the middle of the Hampton Road metropolitan vicinity at the entrance of the Chesapeake Bay. At first glance, this is not a tourist destination, and many people shrug it off due to the presence of the naval base, automatically assuming that there is nothing going on here above and beyond official military duties, but what many people fail to realize is that Norfolk is actually a major cultural hub for the state, with a thriving arts community, museums, operas, and plenty of cultural heritage to keep anyone entertained.
  
  From the nearby historic district of Ghent, packed with historical homes interspersed with tree-lined streets looking like they are straight off of a postcard, to the various restaurants and bars of the downtown district, Norfolk is anything but ordinary. With access to the beaches of the Chesapeake Bay, the once-famous premier beach community known as Ocean View—now on the rise to one of the city’s most desired residential housing after years of slumbering in the shadows—and plenty of shopping opportunities, Norfolk is definitely a thriving city.
  
  Make no mistake, however; this is a typical American town, which means there's lots of well-known chains of stores and restaurants, but beyond that the city has close to 400 years of history since things first began developing here, making it one of the oldest sections of the United States. Not to mention, this is one of the best places in the world to get up close and personal with the largest naval vessels to sail the open seas, which by themselves are reason enough to come.

• Portsmouth

  Pretty quiet place with all types of people, and places to see. Lots of restaurants to choose from like spanish, chinese, caribbean, and fast food spots too. Shopping is not very selective, though they are building another plaza for shopping.
  
  There real estate is very great in pricing. Homes are new or even average and big too.

  James Edwards and his crew of Derrick Sutton and Tony Powell arrived on Monday to dig the holes and fill them with concrete. when the left there was no sign that they were ever there. The property was pristine even though they had mixed concrete an shoveled it through the vents through the foundation. Quite a fete. They arrived on Wednesday and completed the job. Again no sign that they were ever they were there. the work was done swiftly, properly and expertly. I would recommend JES to anyone needing this type of work. Gerald C. Mathei

  My mother put her house on the market and the home inspection showed that there was work that had to be done under the house. After receiving 2 estimates she decided to have JES come out for the third. The initial inspector was a really nice young man who focused on answering her questions and ensuring that she was comfortable with the process. He then went under the house and when he came back had pictures of the areas he saw that needed repairs. He spent a great deal of time talking about the repairs and gave her a printed price right then. The repair crew came and completed the job in a day. They also took pictures of the work and all the photos were set to her for review. When she called the company with further questions she received a prompt and courteous response.

  Was looking for someone to check out our sagging floors and found these guys after a quick search on google. I just wanted to point out that 90% of the reviews here are more then likely fake. If you look at all the people that are leaving reviews for them, most have ONLY reviewed JES and then never wrote another review again. So these people were so impressed with them that they took time out of their busy schedule and started a Gmail account just to sing the praises of this company and then were never heard from again. And if you look at the 1-3 star reviews, most of those accounts have been active for a while and have multiple reviews. ... LOL nice try.... Ill be looking elsewhere..

  Troy Hofheimer was our JES inspector. He arrived to our home on time and was extremely courteous, professional and thorough. He answered all of our questions and we were very impressed with the services he offered. We will definitely be using JES!

  Troy Hofheimer came to my home . He called me and asked if he could come over earlier than my appointment time. Sure! He explained everything he would be looking for in the crawlspace. After his inspection, we discussed interior issues and possible solutions. Troy was very polite and knowledgeable and listened to my concerns.
